Description
Aurora RisingI'm still here! haha...
Very inspired by Blade Runner, although not the same feel. Always wanted to do a huge sci fi city scape, and I had alot of fun with it. The image was made for an independent study for my English class.
Cinema 4D, Vue, Photoshop and Wacom Tablet.
I included a pretty large file for download, so if you want to use it as a wallpaper feel free!
EDIT- Woo! A DD, im honored! Thanks so much Cymae and Samuel Nordius!!!

totally blade runner, but air here seems less saturated with gas
the detail is a mind blow, I think i saw a man in one of those windows waving at me

Yep, you're right! Original blade runner would be alot darker and blue as well, but at that level of light there wouldn't be much detail sadly. Thanks man

There...is much win in this picture...
I know, it's a stupid statement, but saying it's "awesome" doesn't really do it justice.

This means so much to me man, I really appreciate it. I'm also really glad that it reminded you of Blade Runner, as that was definitely my goal with this project- we are reading Blade Runner in school at the moment and my project was to design a city inspired by the book. Of course I've read it several times and seen the movie as well, but it was a perfect chance to spend some time on it!

you just want to lean over and see the names of shops or what's on the holosighs, and the details on that big arcology with the saucer platforms...
amazing!

have you considering drawing an O'Neill Cylinder's or a Cole's bubble inside?
With your skill the perspective effects and details would be amazing!

Could you find some samples of the Cylinder and bubble you are referencing? I searched for them but can't find any good images depicting their forms! I would love to give it a shot

Finding an o'Neill picture is easy enough. Best knowns are the Citadel and Rama. Plenty other example in the Gundam series (especially Gundam Unicorn)
Cole bubble, on the other hand, is much harder to find

it reminded me of the city of the future of the movie Star Wars. Great, even words can not describe in detail! Every detail is traced to the accuracy!

Wow,.. there are a lot of work here.
I may increase the intensity of the fog, but still a spectacular job.
Congratulations.

Thanks so much! I agree with you, looking back on it now. I struggled at some points with how I layered the fog, as I didn't want to obscure too much detail you know?

impressive!
yeah ive always wanted to do a big city scene, ive made moderate ones, but then i usually get sick of it
nice detail, how long did it take to make and render?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
fmacmanus In reply to Affet-kak [2012-05-22 14:46:08 +0000 UTC]
Thanks man!
I would say the project took around 50 or 60 hours from start to finish. I made alot of the base models a while ago, though some are more recent- so you could say I've been working on it for a while now. Rendering was 8 hrs at 9600 px width.
