I like his design. Not overtly beautiful or ugly, but it clearly shows an ambitious character with low self esteem and bitter resentment with the world.

yay! finally we get to see sorian! actually, he's not as... evil-looking as I expected, I guess. he does look grouchy and ruthless, though.

Haha, no. He's not meant to be evil-looking. He's pretty average. He's shorter than Rivek by an inch and maybe a size or two wider. But they're meant to be comparable.
Rivek and Sorian are on two different sides, but Sorian marries Willowren - resulting in there being no 'sides' anymore, but the animosity is preserved. Their similarities lie in that they both desire the same goal - peace - but they have very different means of attaining it.

considering how skinny Rivek is, it doesn't seem to me like it would be very hard to be wider than him. XD

Actually, when I originally wrote it, when I was like, ten, they did get married. Rivek just didn't take title. But now...
Rivek and Will talked it over and decided it would be better. First off, before Sorian was even in the picture, as Willow is a princess, there's no way that her people would accept a foreign-born felon as their king. Not to mention, on all legal terms, Rivek is a slave. They also have known each other since they were fifteen which means they know their personality disagreements. Even with all that, it's not that they didn't knock boots a few times over the course of their friendship. And with other people. Rivek is Willow's first kiss. The converse is not true.
But yes, it was a political marriage. Sorian totally hates that Will gives Rivek goo-goo eyes even though they're married. Originally, though, Willow was set to marry Fenne. So even when they were kids, they both knew it wouldn't have happened.
Willow is more physically attracted to Sorian then Riv, actually. But the only guy who she thought hot right off the bat was Bohren. But he's gay.

No. I just meant Sorian's a mean person, lol.
They are not related at all, and they're from entirely different countries. Their motivations, personalities, and symbolic representations differ, but their end goals are the same.
Sorian is a prince of Heilmdor. However, he has an older brother, so he's not in line for the throne. He also has no magical powers. He is therefore in a constant state of "I'm not good enough". And thus, although he is basically born in the lap of luxury, he is dissatisfied with himself.
Rivek is an Alisian-born servant. He pretended he had a title, but when he was discovered, all that was stripped away from him. However, he was born with powerful magic - but said magic has a lot of bad connotations. He finally accepts himself, but no one else will.
