Contrast is so win, lol. I dunno, but for some reason, I always like to use my pencil to kind of mimic black and white photrography from like, the old days.

Lol. Thank you. I swear, though, there's not much to it. You could check back in my gallery for a shading tutorial - that might help, but the main thing is practice - training your hand to be highly pressure sensitive. In digital art, there are like 512-1024 (depending on the brand) levels of sensitivity for tablets. But for graphite, the range is infinite, especially if you expand into multiple types of pencils.
Lol. And that said, I wish I had half the loose freedom that you do in your work.
And haha, does that mean you were surfing DeviantART in English class? o.O

This is a really beautiful piece of pencil work, the best I've seen on DA, actually.
Your hard work on it has clearly paid off, you have an immense skill for details, form, shadow and lighting placements, that makes this scene particularly realistic. The angle adds a lot more emotion to the piece as well, it brings an unbalanced, chaotic feeling.
Excellent contrast too, you did well on the pillars, the shadows, and the lighter colored areas too, like her blonde hair, I can almost see the color in this piece. Some parts are eerily realistic too, the armor, the semi-realistic hair, it's so beautiful. The flow of this image is remarkable, the loose pose, the way his body directs you out of the picture, perfectly done.
I also commend you on the swirling feathers, again, they bring focus and chaos into the picture, and they don't ruin any detail; they retain their own details, even through the convincing blur. I'm thoroughly impressed, you are surely one of my DA idols.

fongmingyun In reply to pseudolirium [2007-08-06 02:21:57 +0000 UTC]
Haha, the blur is the Photoshop edit I referred to. Thank you. This is like, the nicest - most thorough- comment, I've ever gotten. Haha, you notied like, all the things I was raking my brain over.
That said, I looked at yoru age on your DA page... MY GOD YOU'RE YOUNG. O_O
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
pseudolirium In reply to fongmingyun [2007-08-08 00:41:39 +0000 UTC]
Apologize for replying late, been really busy. Even with the Photoshop edit, I can tell you spent a long time on the feathers, the motion, and the mood beforehand. Photoshop doesn't have a good art button.
You're welcome, I try and be as thorough as possible in my comments, I've gotten enough generic/"pretty"/"teach me 2 use layerz lol kthx" too, so it's the least I can do to help out the community.
Thank you, although age shouldn't be a factor in art, so if I'm a 20 year old, I doubt my art would still be considered good, so I've got a long way to go. It's very encouraging though, thank you!

fongmingyun In reply to pseudolirium [2007-08-08 01:31:32 +0000 UTC]
lol. I wish I had a "good art" button"! XD
Haha. Understandable.
Hey, age is a measure of potential? *shrug* I dunno. LIke, if you are younger, you've had less years of practice?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
pseudolirium In reply to fongmingyun [2007-08-08 01:35:27 +0000 UTC]
I wish I had a "Make Good Art" button too, I saw a make-shift/mockery tutorial featuring a Photoshop button like that, it was for those people who claim the computer does all the work for you and such.
Perhaps; age isn't a matter of talent though, I don't think. It just means you've had more of a chance/less of a chance to practice, like you said. For instance, you're talented no matter if you're 13 or 50.
