My entry for round 99 of CHOW at ConceptArt.org, with the topic being the Herald of the Queen.

I hadn't painted a figure in a long time, so this was something of a refresher for me. Remembering anatomy wasn't easy. All in all though I feel I completed him as much as I had originally intended. My main complaint is that I really didn't have time to give him a proper environment or background and he really deserves one. That's something I think I'll tackle in the coming weeks, before he finds his final resting place in my portfolio.

The concept, as always, was very open to interpretation. It required a herald that doubled as personal bodyguard for the queen, and had to exude power and confidence. I think I managed to convey most of that through his stance and stoic expression. Stylistically I wanted a somewhat dark feel him, with both asian and classic medieval fantasy elements. I added the close-up views of a few details for dA, though they weren't in the original.

With any luck you'll see him again next to his Queen, in the coming weeks.

Timeframe: About five days worth of work and another day or so brushing up anatomy.
