Description
Sing, formless force within me,a melody deeper than words.
Sing strongly yet inaudibly,
notes without sound-
I shall hear more clearly without my ears as mediator.
Sing of existence, for that is all you really are;
Sing of the miracle of consciousness,
to ride the winds of time as dust,
to, in the ever-advancing present, be.
Sing of love, for it binds you at the seam;
Love not as a feeling but a knowing,
not of hormone or thought but of deed,
sing love that cannot be held in chest or limb or even mind.
Sing, formless force within me,
a melody deeper than words.
Merge with it and become it, for at my
truest, deepest, simplest
I am you,
and I shall be a song of existence and love
for aeons after I cease to be a body.

Isn't describing a melody deeper than words like catching fish with a hammer?
But enough being rational, I think you can catch fish with a hammer if you're talented enough, or at least when you hit the point. And you've hit the point in this poem.
I hope it does not sound egocentric when I compare this to one of my own poems, but I think we tried to hit the same point when you told about love that can not be hold in chest or limb or even memory and I ended my seemingly cheesy poem [link] with the sentence "For what is beauty when you can pin it down with words?"
That's enough self-advertising for today, back to the subject;
this poem is really spiritual withouth being far-out, this is defining withouth being rational, for a part of your prose is that nothing can be described, making it a paradox (something that seems to fight itsself), but my, what a beautifull paradox.

Have toyed with the thought of what "thought" would be like if there was no language, no words to be the symbols of an understanding... And this poem, brought back some of that...

Ross, your poetry is always so beautiful and moving. I always love how your passion (in whatever subject matter you addressing) comes out, and it is so bold, so strong. Another amazing job.

Beautiful. A great message to convey. I find our poetry mannerisms to be quite similar actually.

I used to. Not anymore, but I have a couple old ones in my gallery that I am proud of. I just no longer have any drive to do so unfortunately.

Stunningly beautiful...it's interesting, I got hints of somewhat spiritual undertones, but the overall mood of it was thoroughly universal

Utterly beautiful

Thank you for the comment and fave!
Yeah, only a few of my poems have spiritual *overtones*, but the undertones are prevalent. The only really spiritual line in this is "aeons after I cease to be a body", implying an afterlife, but even that line could be taken as living on as a memory.
I'm glad you like it so much

It's impossible to write honest are and not have some level of your philosophical leanings come through...from where I was looking,
I am you,
and I shall be a song of existence and love
for aeons after I cease to be a body.
was more of a Castanedian sort of thing, a student of a sort of Shamanism taught by a Yaqui indian Don Juan Matus...the idea (and I always saw Carlos Castaneda's books as metaphor's myself so this is a metaphorical idea to me) he presents is that the path of a normal man ends with a tap on the left shoulder from their "death", a force that's always there and can tap you at any moment (in that way he implies each moment, being the possible last, is as monumentally important as any moment you have ever experienced, Nietzsche goes even farther suggesting that each act we make is as important to the world as the greatest act by any man who's ever existed). When ones death comes he describes death as being like "becoming" an aspect of a great eagle, losing the totality of the self and becoming an interminable, integrated aspect of the whole.
The intent then of a "man of knowledge" is to in a sense soar past the eagle and maintain consciousness, the individual aspect of the self that is "you"...I suppose Buddhists would call it reaching Nirvana in a way, Christians Heaven and so on. That's not to say I literally believe that happens, but I find the idea fascinating, particularly that of ones death being always one step behind you to burn away the unnecessary mundanes of existence, to live in a sense with assurance and "power", because if there is the possibility of never seeing another moment there is no time for what Castaneda calls "indulgence".
Anyway though, I'm rambling...don't worry, not trying to convert you or anything...I just enjoy the idea of religion and philosophy, particularly similarities in many systems I've found...fascinating field of study.

No, I don't take it as trying to convert me, don't worry about that. I hate it when people assume bringing up a religious idea means someone is trying to force that idea down their throat. It's why I've been a bit shyer showing off my newest poem, which is explicitly theistic. I'm not trying to indoctrinate anyone with it, but enough people are oversensitive enough to think that.
I find the idea you just stated fascinating, even if I don't subscribe to it. Mysticism interests me in about the same way that Norse and Greek stories do, even if the former is not near as ridiculous as the latter.

I've always thought of them as variations on a theme...ever hear of Syncretism? [link] I'm largely a syncretist by nature, not as much in terms of god's themselves of course, but in looking to varying beliefs with similar, connecting elements. I've always found that interesting...one of the reasons I always enjoyed the Apocrypha so much, there's a lot to be said I can see elsewhere in other religions.

There's something so joyful about this poem; it made me smile.
Favorite line: I shall hear more clearly without my ears as mediator.
I also really like the second to last stanza and the way the first line is repeated at the end.
Excellent!
