Description Hello everyone! I just have to say, I am so pleased to show this all to you! You will of recognize this already, a line art I did for my Tomb Raider Calendar project for January. But now it's colored and I colored it myself! I don't have a tablet or anything just my laptop and a mouse-pad built into the laptop and with Gimp (I don't have anything else). I really enjoyed doing it but I was total newbie to how to do hardly anything. I looked up tutorials on how to use the program and more. I think I did a good job and I'm really proud of it considering this is the first time I've ever touched digitally coloring. I think my favorite parts are the shines and the snow on Lara. I really wanted to give off my regular art vibe, with some realism but with comic coloring style too. Please, let me know what you think. Feedback and comments are always welcome!

Utensil(s) Used: .7mm mechanical pencil, Gimp for colors.
Time: For colors, approximately 9-10 hours.

This is amazing. This is art like I used to read as a child. I'd pick up a book like Indiana Jones, or Alan Quartermain etc and I was picturing art like this in my head. Beautifully done. I hope I can draw like this one day. Genius work!

Thank you. One of the biggest inspirations of Tomb Raider was Indiana Jones so I completely see your aligning of the two. I have redone this picture since then if you're interested in seeing it: ---> Up the Tibetan Foothills - January

Some problems in the legs but I like your subject. Good idea to make some snow effects on her clothes.
You made me want to draw a fanart about this level now.

I swear Lara's buns must be of steel because I would be freezing in shorts and just a small air pilot's jacket, haha! Realistically, it snows in Tibet, so I'm sure she'd have some on her.

You should, TRII is the best TR game yet.

Thank you and I think Lara must be made of iron because the cold doesn't seem to really affect her.

No, but something in your illustration reminded me of the character in the film versions.

Thank you Jerica! It was my first time, but I'm pretty proud with how it turned out.

Speaking of which, when you color my already shaded drawings, you said you airbrushed them. Is there a certain way you did or opacity you used?

JericaWinters In reply to Forty-Fathoms [2013-02-12 00:25:34 +0000 UTC]

It's really good, you should be proud.

I put down the color flats using the lasso selection tool (with anti-alias turned off) and the pixel pencil tool. So the edges of each shape of color has clear "staircases" Then I select each area and use the air brush at 100% opacity. Some times I turned it down to 70% but mostly I relied on the pressure I put on the pen.

Thank you so much, Matte! I'm usually really hard on myself when it comes to my art, but for the first time in a long time, I'm really proud of my piece and I think I did a great job. And I totally don't mean that in a cocky way or anything. I'm just really happy with how this little project turned out.

P.S. I'm working on another digital painting.

You could just like... you know, extend the canvas? Like you've already got the main thing worked out. All you gotta do now is add more details to the environment.
Once you're happy with the result, you could change the resolution of the entire pic from portrait to landscape.

now that I look back and play all of the games again, I really liked the water levels in Tomb Raider 2. I just hated going into the water after seeing the crocodiles in Tomb Raider 1 which scarred me for life as a kid when the sharks showed up XD

Oh I remember being a kid and seeing the Great White sharks and freaking out. I drowned so many times on 40 Fathoms because I was trying to escape the sharks and figure out where to go.

Thank you so much! I figured that would be a good idea considering she's up in the mountains. Makes it even sillier that she wore shorts.

Lol, I swear, this is my first try. I did have help from tutorials on how to work the program and it did take a lot of work. Thank you again, Sean!
