It is done. After almost 15 hours of work I finally finished it, of course distrubuted over multiple days, I mean I just wouldn't have the time to constantly work on it. Was it worth the effort, I mean the forst three hours were literally wasted since I had to redo everything I did in this time, but I think for the first ever try on a underwater scene it's quite good. Sadly, for some reasons however the colors are slightly off from the original and I either have it so the green doesn't look as nice or the entire, other colors of the painting have a slight hint of weird looking yellow to it. I think going for the slightly off green was the right decision therefore. I'd really like some critique on it, the only thing I'm not really satisfied with is that the whole painting is quite colorfull and the colors may be a bit to saturated for my taste, but what do I know, maybe it's fine.

Incisum Subzone:

Now what is the Incisum Subzone? Like i already said previously it's a new Ammonite-Fauna in the Lower Ornatenton of southwest Germany named after the Ammonite Paracuariceras incisum. Thinking about it now I probably should have included him into this painting as well. In comparison to the other Subzones of the Lower Ornatenton we find an unusual abundance of heteromorph Ammonites in this layer along with other "normal" or homomorph Ammonites. For those who don't know the Ornatenton or at least the southern one, the north German Ornatenton is quite well known because of a certain megalosaurid called Wiehenvenator albati, sadly there are no dinosaurs known from the south, the Ortatenton or Ornatenton Formation is like so many other Formation from Germany yet another deposit of marine sdiments. It dates from the lower Callovian up untill the lowest Oxfordium, while the Incisum Subzone represents the last Ammonite-Subzone of the Lower Callovian and Ornatenton (Lower Ornatenton/Callovian; Calloviense Zone; Enodatum Subzone; Incisum Subzone, overlies: Parallelum Subzone/ underlies: Jason Subzone). Now for everybody who wanted to take a look at the paper describing this subzone, I am sorry but I couldn't find it anywhere in the Internet so you can only take my word for it, which really sucks because I didn't write down anything during the lecture cause I didn't think of at first that I would illustrate it later. Allthough there are lots of Ammonites known from this subzone, sadly these are the only ones that I could remember the genus and species of. The ones I've chosen to depict is of course the most striking one, the heteromorph ammonite Parapatoceras tuberculatum which probably lived at the sea floor. Like I already said there is an unusual abundance of these Ammonites and since they probably weren't great swimmer the had to inhabit the sea floor. In the lecture paleontologist Gerd Dietel suggested that they probably lived in huge algae forests which either existed on the floor of the ocean near the surface or drifted through the water. Occasionally they speculated that pieces of these forests were ripped of and drifted outwards into the ocean to later sink to the bottom. With them, they took the unable to swim, heteromorph ammonites with them resulting in their death. But for now that's only one possible scenario. The other Ammonite which can be seen in this painting swimming though the water over them is Kosmocras jason, namegiving for the overlying  Jason Subzone and a slightly problematic taxon which name has been given two completly unrelated taxa of ammonites. Lastly and only in the backgorund swimming through the algae forset is Hecticoceras brightii a genus that first appeared in Germany during this Subzone as an immigrant form further south and became later far more abundant. Besides the already before mentioned Paracuariceras incisum other genera that I can remember are Sigaloceras, Peltoceras, Paraspidoceras, Quenstedtoceras and Spiroceras but with these I no longer know the specific species. And if you managed to read through all of this you truly deserve a cookie, sadly I can't give you one, so my bad.
