Muskrat skull on a muskrat pelt (not from the same individual).Pelt and skull purchased at the Feast of the Hunter's Moon in Lafayette, IN

I had a muskrat skull simmering in a plastic bag, I was so excited to get it cleaned...though of course my mom threw it away because there were maggots in it T_T Stupid mother lol

But, but maggots are helpers! ...Gross little helpers that make me want to throw up but helpers nonetheless. Next time you get a skull, put it on the dirt, then an upside-down flower pot over it, then some heavy rocks on top of that. I have a skull cleaning tutorial here: [link]

I'll try that next time, I just don't have any dirt that isn't rock hard lol
Especially since it's getting to winter up here in Maine. I actually gotta dig up a flying squirrel and a chipmunk that have been there for a year now.

Even if the dirt is hard, you can still set the animal on it and put the flowerpot over top. In the spring, the bugs will be back.

I have two actually, one skull i'm cleaning and a whole body in the ground [might be hard to find though xD]. You can find them in maine 
My kitty gets to them all the time. I'm thinking next time I find one, I'm going to try and skin it.
