Description

Not long after being picked up by the two ninjas, April was in one of the Foot Clan's hidden bases in the Bronx. It looked like the inside of a large storage facility, with black uniformed guards patrolling the halls and perimeter. Given her past history with them, April was still stunned that she was brought here peacefully. She even commented as such when she was brought inside.

“I’ve usually got a gag on me when I’m in one of these places,” she said with a slight laugh. “This kinda treatment’s a step up I guess.” The two Foot ninjas said nothing, but stopped in place when a young woman with Japanese features came around the bend. She wore a jet black robe with a red knot on the waist for a belt. It reminded April faintly of what a Shinto priestess was supposed to look like, but there wasn’t a single bit of white on her outfit. Her hair was a long straight waterfall of black.

She made no noise as she walked. That was what really got April’s attention. That and her face. She couldn’t have been older than twenty or so.

“Ma’am,” the ninjas said, bowing deeply. After a moment, she decided it might be a good call to do the same. She had no idea who this was, but April wanted to make a good first impression. The girl giggled, something that made April’s heart skip a beat.

“Oh good, she’s here,” the girl said in a chipper tone. “And please, you can stop now.” April and the other two ninjas rose back up. “My name is Saori, spiritual advisor to the Foot Clan. I’m happy to meet you in person, April.”

For some reason, April couldn’t help but smile back. “Yeah,” she said. “Same here.”

Saori laughed.

“I’m sorry this is so unexpected. I’m guessing you have lots of questions. Please, if you follow me to my office, I’ll explain everything.”

“Sure,” April replied. “I’d be happy to.” She followed the girl through a corridor and to a sliding door made of straw that one could usually find in a traditional Japanese home. The door led to a very comfortable lit  room with an ebony wooden desk that had a  laptop on it as well as a cup holding what April recognized to be calligraphy pens.

Saori turned to the two ninja.

“Some tea, please.” The pair bowed and practically leapt out of sight.

“I’m so sorry,” Saori told April, putting her hands together. “I didn’t think they’d bring you here this quickly so I didn’t have a pot ready. I hope you don’t mind the wait.”

“N-no,” April said, slightly flustered. “It’s fine…it’s totally fine.” Saori giggled again and knelt down in front of her desk, a signal for April to do the same.

“Now then,” Saori said with a beaming smile, “You’re definitely confused about why we brought you here or why you’ve been so cooperative thus far.  Well, to answer the first part, it’s because we’ve realized that it’d be better for us to bring you on board instead of just trying to kill you along with the turtles.”

“Bring me on board?” April asked. “For…what exactly…you mean joining the Foot Clan?”

“Yep,” Saori replied. “I know the turtles are your friends and all but in the grand scheme of things they do so little to actually improve the city you call home. They don’t have a grander vision. We do. The Foot Clan knows what’s best for NYC, April.”

April was stunned. She found herself believing everything Saori was telling her.

“Now quite obviously we can’t just overthrow the mayor and say the city belongs to the Foot,” Saori said. “So we’re going with a more covert strategy, amassing power in the shadows and becoming the real rulers of the Big Apple.”

April slowly nodded.

“But…how am I gonna help with that?”

“As our spokeswoman of course!” Saori chirped. “Well, not blatantly. Having you say on air that NYC needs the Foot Clan wouldn’t be a good call. No, you’re going to help boost people who are going to do what we want. People running for chief of police, mayor, all that stuff. The public has a great amount of faith in you and we’d be hard pressed to find a better mouthpiece than you.”

At that moment, one of the Foot ninja came in with a  tray holding a teapot and two cups. He poured some of the liquid into both of them, set the tray down on the desk, and walked out. Saori drank first, then April.

“As for your second question, well, you belong to us now. The Foot Clan, I mean.”

April blinked.

“I…belong to…”

Saori fixed April with a serene gaze, her tone gentle yet firm. "April, you're going to join us because you have no other choice. The files you listened to weren't just information; they were hypnotic suggestions carefully crafted to take root in your mind. You will join us, April. You will do whatever we command, without question, and you will love every second of it.”

April felt a strange sense of clarity wash over her, as if a fog had lifted, revealing a path she was meant to walk. In that moment, all doubts seemed to vanish, replaced by a deep understanding. What Saori had said, it was true. The city was in chaos, and the Foot Clan offered a chance for order, a chance for something better.

A sense of belonging settled within April, intertwining with the hypnotic suggestions already embedded in her mind. She looked at Saori with newfound determination, accepting her fate with a calm resolve. "I understand," April said, her voice steadier than before. "I serve the Foot Clan now. They will speak through me.”

Saori giggled.

“I knew you’d see reason. Now, here are your first orders…
