Honestly looking at power, and experience, Ash's Normal charizard is stornger than Red's mega Charizard. As a mega he would stomp red in few second.
Also, Ash have much better strategy, and more unpredicipable battle style than Red.
Red is strong, but his charizard is just too joung to beat far more experienced Ash's charizard who finish his long training.

And good breakdown as well. Ash has many more regions of experience under his belt as well, his training techniques also develop his entire team equally instead of just his Charizard.
However, with that in mind, it is possible that because Red has trained his Charizard so well that it took on Mewtwo, it still is a challenge for Ash.Β

Yah, but Ash also beat many legendaries.
Ash's Sceptile without mega form fought with two legedaries on Mewtwo's level (Fought close with Deoxys and defeat Darkrai, both have feats on mewtwo's level in anime).
Red is very good triner, but in my opion his charizard need more experience.

so here what I think. ash mega charizard Y, red mega charizard X
red's charizard (fire and dragon):Β tough claws ability (physical attacks increase by 33%): fire blast (120 damage, 70% accuracy), swift (60 damage, never misses), mega punch (80 damage, 85% accuracy), and slash (70 damage, 100% accuracy)
ash's charizard (fire and flying): drought (for five turns increases fire type attacks): flamethrower (90 damage, 100% accuracy), dragon tail (60 damage, 100% accuracy), wing attack (60 power, 100% accuracy), and slash (70 damage, 100% accuracy)
so here what I think
mega charizard X has a massive boost in physical abilities and since draught increases ITD attack, and since its defence gets higher, and ahs charizard is mostly aΒ physical attacker, not even that one dragon move can save him. reds attacks do more damage and fire blast does more damage, than flamethrower, so red wins and ash loses again.

Game mechanics =/= Anime mechanics.
Ash's charizard have much more experiences than Red's, and Ash show much more unpredictable strategy than Red in origins.
Ash's zard also in normal form shows more fire power (using flamethower) than Red's zard as a mega (using Fire blast), and Ash's is definitely much faster.
That would be good battle, but i think Ash's zard win.

me too, but heres the thing. ash didn't train charizard that much and mega evolution would just make it stronger and Y doesn't debuff any stats.Β and red (lets be honest) did taught charizard some pretty stupid moves. I mean swift, and slash? squirtle used bite which was a dark type move but you could still teach it dragon claw right? anyway ash...doesn't train his pokemon well, and red actually won the league, plus ash's lost quiet a lot of battles. I know its just under 40% but still. plus red is much more synched with his charizard and that makes mega evolution stronger. mega charizard X is a much superior evolution but heres how ash can win. don't mega evolve into Y because he'll get an advantage, use dragon tail at the right time, and counter his fire blast. red does go in un prepared and even though charizard has defeated a legendary...it was an ice type and it was an articuno.
ash's faster, has a variety of type moves, has "belonged" (not travelled)Β to ash longer. but, lacks a little in bond because he doesn't travel with ash anymore (or at least not that much), his moves aren't that strong, and he he lost quite a few battles.
red: mostly normal type moves, most moves lack in accuracy, quite slow: BUT, can mega evolve, has a strong bond, travelled with longer, has beaten a legendary (yes by mega evolving but it was the most powerful psychic pokemon)

Not at all, current Ash is good triner, and train his bets pokemon well, and Charizard also taing long time in charific valley.
Red have stronger bond with his Charizard, but still bond isn't everything, and Ash also have strong bond with his zard (Zard save Ash's life in movie), maybe not that close bond as with Pikachu, Greninja or Sceptile, but still very strong. Even in BW, Ash have strong bond with his Zard (stronger than any Unova pokemon).
In my opinion that battle would be very close and good. Ash's zard have much more experiences, and is faster, and dragon type moves like dragon tail or dragon breath (and probably zard would get dragon pulse) gave Ash's zard adventage.
But unlike Ash's, Red's zard can mega evolve, and with it, Red's zard have more physical power and physical bulk.
Both charizard defeat leegdnaries (Mewtwo is stronger than articuno, but Origins legendaries are weaker (especialy mewtwo) than main anime canon legends (and also Unova opening shows Ash's zard on Reshiram's level)).
And both charizards lost some battles (Red's lost agains Nidoquen).
Yeah, Red win Kanto league, but Red win battle frontier and Battle frontier brains in anime are that strong as elite four (Ash's zard lost agains Brandon only thanks to Ash's stupid decisions, but current Ash is much smarter).
I think Ash's zard win this battle, thanx to experiences, and Ash's unpredictable battle style.
Of course it's only my opion, and i respect other.

well remember. ash's zard did lose quite a lot of battles. and I know ashs has beaten a blastoise, but to be fair, so did reds. it has even beaten Giovanni's rhydon, which was his most powerful. and non of red pokemon, appart from hitmonlee has beaten his weaker evolvedΒ form. its thunderbolt tookΒ out jolteon. and no offense but red actually won the league. and I doubt that a PokΓ©mon that lost to a duskclops, is on a legendries level. I know ash's zard has helped him, in the johto league, battle frontier and even a few other things, but the overall issue is, red has beaten and faced a moltress which is stronger than an articuno that ashs almost lost to. yes theres experience. but ash didn't train charizard enough. no matter how many pokemon red had charizard helped him through every gym, every battle, and every encounter. ash won by helping out, or trying again, and he only started training his pokemon in generation 4. plus I his pokemon did beat the strongest psychic type in existence (not counting lunala or solgalao) mewtwo. plus his charizard has a 65% win rate, and I'm sure reds is a 97% win race since his charizard lost only twice in the series. heres a link to something if you don't believe me. knowyourmeme.com/photos/108923β¦
honestly though his charizard is strong. I just feel like if ash used ALL his pokemon in the kalos league and saved his strongest pokemon for last, he could of won. like he should of had
