Description Forgot to upload this two weeks ago- here's Iwana! (And a lazy background)

(ACK I just noticed I put the arrow on the wrong side of the bow aaaaah. And I'm seeing more mistakes the longer I look. rip)
(Update 2: thanks to a watcher's comment below I learned that it's not wrong at all. You learn new things every day! c: )

Always such a pleasure to see Iwana! She's really nicely posed here and I really like the tree and the little grass-type plants, they have a nice style c:

Thank you! They're mostly silhouettes to hide that I'm not so good at drawing plants. (working on that though)

That's certainly true!

The 'shoot over thumb' usually goes with a different drawing technique (thumb draw), but I have seen this crazy, super fast archer (I forgot the dude's name) use this shooting technique. I tried it too, but it was an utter disaster for me :') So in other words; it works, but I don't understand how, hehe. but she looks amazing! Great pose

Oooh yeah, you mean the guy who can shoot three targets thrown into the air before they hit the ground? I didn't pay much attention to his technique when I first saw a video of him, but that's such badass skill he has.

Your digital art just seems to surprise me how close it looks to your traditional. XD But the 'lazy background' looks super awesome! Quite realistic actually it even exudes the humid and chilly feeling of the air. And yes, a few months back I'd also think it as the wrong side but nope. Both sides are possible though I'm not sure if this thumb side is more common with thumb draw. At least I saw a horse bower do it that way, but don't know. Also think you did great job with all the muscles even if it's a reptile-like creature. All the shadows just fall for the right place showing this guy has power.

Thank you!
Iwana is actually a girl, but I took the best of both worlds and decided reptiles shouldn't have boobs. :') (Because I don't like boobs, especially when shooting. They feel a little in the way sometimes.

Now that you mentioned it she does look a bit more feminine. Yeah, I think it is better this way. (My body shape is so slim I haven't experienced that problem, but I can well imagine that. I've heard The Amazons cut off their left breast so that it wouldn't get in the way.

I heard that too. No idea if it's true, but it would be kind of badass.

  Nice.Β  I like the background.

Also, you are not wrong, actually. While it is typical in modern archery to place the arrow on the same side of the bow as the bow hand, historically this is not the case.Β  In fact, to place the arrow on the opposite side as the bow hand, for a practiced archer, can be just as accurate and many times quicker.Β  I greatly recommend watching this video:Β youtu.be/BEG-ly9tQGk

Hot dang, I had no idea actually!
Well, that gives it a whole new dimension. Glad you pointed that out! Being a modern recurve archer may not be as helpful in designing a non-modern archer character as I had hoped.
On the other hand, learning new stuff can be great fun too. ^^
Thanks again!

I'm glad to be of help. Β  I enjoy learning stuff as well.

It really is a nice artwork.Β  You say that the background is lazy but only the sky seems under developed.Β  Other than that, it is detailed enough to give a feel for the land but simple enough to leave the character in the focus which seems to be what you're going for.

Am I following you to these things, or are you following me? It's hard to tell at this point. Or it's just a coincidence.
