Description At long last, the map of the land SpiritSong takes place on, Lyrica, is finished This is an unbelievably important and helpful tool for the development of the story ^^

As you can see, I've roughly filled in the areas of terrain, including mountains, forests, rivers, etc. as well as marked down the locations of all the cities and places I've come up with thus far. To get a feel for the size, keep in mind that Lyrica is about the size of the US, if not a little bigger.

This map will be updated with newer versions as I add in cities and other things that aren't there yet.

Also, I've made the fullview size the original size of the actual document, so that you can look at every detail of the map to your heart's content XD

Enjoy ^^

I like the map and I agree with FithApos about the moutains and rivers. I know this is just a piece in the works but you might want to think about adding a few more minor towns the map or villages as places that the characters can move through on their way to one of the larger ones, becuase at the moment it remminds me of the wild west, with massive gaps between major cities and very little in them haha.

Although if thats the kind of world your aiming for then thumbs up lol.

lol alright ^_^ Yeah, it is a WIP, so I'll keep that in mind for the next one. Like I said, it only includes the cities I've created so far XP

I Love It! You sure love mountains and forests a lot, but that's cool, better than deserts at any rate. I was just thinking that you might want to adjust the scale a little, the US is 4800 kilometers wide, but your scale would put this island at just about 255 kilometers wide. Increase the scale by a factor of about 19 and it should fit.

lol yeah, I didn't realize how many mountains there were until a while after I posted it XD I'm gonna have to fix that.

And thanks for the tip on the scale (lol pun :3 )

Ask this, though: Which way do the trade winds blow? Once you've decided that, then you have to figure out where you want the desert to be, and put the mountains upwind of that. Mountains sap the moisture from air, that's how they cause deserts.

Unless there's a high elevation there? Anyway, how about making a little bit of extra desert in the part south of the scorpion desert, past the mountains? Just the part between the two rivers there (it would make the most sense to me)

Perhaps you can make a topographical map later, then we could see the terrain a little better

FoxxBrush In reply to Onihikage [2009-08-12 18:43:54 +0000 UTC]

lol well, I dunno anything about weather XD

So, I'll probably take your advice on the desert thing. I dunno, it just seems to me that if there are mountains on all sides it'd just make it even dryer, wouldn't it?

But yeah, obviously there's still a lot of tweaking to do

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Onihikage In reply to FoxxBrush [2009-08-12 18:54:37 +0000 UTC]

Mountains cause air to rise to get over them, and when it rises, it cools, so all the moisture in it condenses and is left on the mountain. Then it's dry as it continues on through the desert.

So yeah, an area surrounded by mountains might be drier, but any area past the mountain, from the direction of the wind, will be much drier than it would be without the mountains.

Ah, I see I'll take out those mountains to the south then

Onihikage In reply to FoxxBrush [2009-08-20 19:47:54 +0000 UTC]

Good idea

And remember that the seawater isn't going to put green between the desert and the ocean, because the water is too salty to support plant life. Therefore, after removing those south mountains, the desert will extend all the way out to the coast. After getting out of the "mouth," so to speak, created by the mountains, the desert will expand like an upside down V until it reaches the coast, because that's how they spread from the source in a geographic location like that.

Also, make sure there's at least a little bit of plains at the desert's edges, instead of forest (forests don't go straight to deserts, there's always grasslands in between the two). Desert touching mountains is fine, of course

Heh, you sure know a lot about geography and weather lol

Thanks for the help ^^ I'll be sure to incorporate that in my next version

whoa!!! mountains next to the rivers? that would be awesome if your story would have a seen where they scout. Well I'll leave the story telling to you XD.
That's a huge mountain chain, is it a mistake? or is there a reason for it?
The rivers are huge too.
Love it that you made a map, it's really useful for your story looking forward to read it in your comic!

FoxxBrush In reply to TeenCat [2009-08-11 02:55:40 +0000 UTC]

lol yeah, this is mostly just a rough layout of where things are. I'll be tweaking it to be more accurate in later versions

TeenCat In reply to FoxxBrush [2009-08-11 19:01:11 +0000 UTC]

ohhhh! awesome !! I can't wait for the next version. What inspired you to write the story? I have three different inspired stories, nah wait. 4. yes 4! dang it i have so many reasons for them, what are yours?

FoxxBrush In reply to TeenCat [2009-08-11 22:55:53 +0000 UTC]

The story of SpiritSong? Nothing big actually inspired it, really I was working at Wal-Mart one day and I was trying to come up with an original comic idea that I could make into a hit manga one day. I remembered that the easiest things to write about are things you know and things you like. I like music, the idea of human potential, and "save the world" kinds of stories And walah, SpiritSong was born XP

It all kinda just grew into this monstrously awesome thing from there ^_^

holly really? mine usually came from games like 'Bang Howdy' 'VMK' 'Sims 3' and other stuff ...
--
how did 'save the world' and stuff lead you to SpiritSong?? why did you call it like that?? Okay you know what >.>... imma shut my mouth for now and wait for the manga

Those are some fat rivers man! If it's the size of the U.S. they'd be several miles wide! Still, I suppose you've got to be able to see them. I notice there's an awful lot of mountains. Mountains tend to run in chains along the planet's tectonic fault lines, rather than in lumps. And rivers, in turn, run down from the mountains toward the coast, rather than through them. I know I'm getting a bit technical here, but it's just a bad habit of mine.

I like that you've done a map like this. It's an incredibly useful resource for the writer, and it also helps the fans to visualise things. Hardcore fantards love this kind of thing. One more suggestion is that you use little symbols to show the exact location of cities and towns. It's hard to tell exactly where they are just from looking at the name.

FoxxBrush In reply to FifteenthApostle [2009-08-11 02:51:42 +0000 UTC]

lol I know I know XP This map is mostly just to mark the general areas of things. I'll keep working on it and I'll update this pic with newer, more accurate, versions later. I mostly just posted it cuz someone asked me to ^^

So I'll take your suggestions into account as I work on this map

Just wondering, did you use a map program? nor for the important.
it has rain forest? rain forest are cool!!
ahem
will you put detailed versions of the cities?
Do I see an oasis and a lake?
yay wastelands!!
Do I see a Mesopotamia?
good job man, keep developing the idea.

FoxxBrush In reply to Flyerscurse [2009-08-11 02:52:39 +0000 UTC]

Nope ^^ Just Photoshop and my mad skillz lol

And yeah, I'll be doing some concept sketches of some of the enemies and cities as I go along, just like they do for video games XP

FoxxBrush In reply to Flyerscurse [2009-08-11 22:46:45 +0000 UTC]

lol no, I don't think it has a rain forest XD That's about the only environment it DOESN'T have though XP

OMSS! A MAP! *squeals like the fangirl of maps that she is!*

I love it! MAPMAPMAPMAPMAPMAPMAP! *rolls it up and hides it* Nuuuu.. no one touchies the map except me, Jared, and Jewel..... maybe Kat.... >_> No one else though... RAWR!

(When you are going to work with the Fan Club idea have.. unless someone else has started one.)

FoxxBrush In reply to VixenTFox [2009-08-11 02:54:55 +0000 UTC]

Well, if you're going to run the fanclub, then you need to be the one making all the preparations that you can. In fact, since it's your idea, I'll let you pic from any of my SS drawings to make the icon and banner out of and I'll be happy to do it

Glad you like the map btw XP

VixenTFox In reply to FoxxBrush [2009-08-11 03:15:31 +0000 UTC]

Yikes! But I don't know anything about fanclubs >_<

Uhm... well I don't suppose you can do a flash one.. which is kind of what I was hoping for. Why don't you do a Rai icon of maybe just a Spirit Song Icon... Then for the banner do the Spirit Song logo and The five? or so main characters as headshots.
