Code Geass - Farewell?[Episode- R2 22]
The title for this one is oddly fitting. As well as the scene itself. It's both up in the air. Are these goodbyes really goodbye? Will this really be my last Code Geass 4koma?
Even I don't know the answer to either until the end.
After this week I don't expect to make any more Code Geass 4komas. See my journal entry for more details.
If I'm happy with the end of the series I will make 4komas for the last three episodes. If I don't then they end here.
I'd really like to continue these series of 4komas, but if the series finale irritates me I don't see how I could. That ending would always be on my mind while working on them. If a series end irritates you, do you always want to keep thinking about it week after week after week? I would think not and I would hope everyone wouldn't expect me do be some kind of masochist.
I paid special attention to the angles and the settings in this 4koma. Nearly everything is like it appears in the episode. With the exception of the last panel.
I really wanted to get their position right in compared to the scene of the episode.
The backgrounds are what took the longest here. Funny enough what took a LONG time to get right was the decorative railing on the hand rails of the steps.
You'd be amazed how tricky it can be to draw a kissing scene. You basically have to start out with two circles that slightly over lap. Not too much though or it will look like they have half their head in each others mouths. Even more so when you draw the angle of the lips.
For the attentive you may notice I was trying something different with Kallen's hair. I just wanted it to look softer and have more of a flow to it while in the headband.

A recent interview with Kallen's VA was released. She talks about how Kallen was never sure of her own feelings for Lelouch until she kissed him. Before she was never sure if what she felt was just loyalty, but after the kiss she realized that she really likes this guy.
The scene itself never shows that reaction. It would seem odd that the character finally realizes she feels that way and suddenly moves on. I would only expect that the reason they didn't do it there is, because there will be a scene later on.
This gives me some level of hope for a good ending to the series.
It's just that if this series rushes some pairing with a character like Gino in these last three episodes after that scene. I will never forgive this series.

Well, I know they don't have KMFs, but the anime came first. So the manga changed things. Not the other way around.

Worry not my friend the ending is AMAZING!!! Even if at first, it seems a little disapointing. The speach Kallen gives just before the final credits, and CC's last word(s) make it totally effing sweet!!

I posted this comment right after reading the pic description. I hadn't yet read all of the comment conversations. I was under the impression you still hadn't seen the ending. Now that I realize that you have, I see you probably agree with me.
I find it a nice touch that he asked Suzaku to dress as Zero, the greatest Robin Hood, in the end. The symbole of freedom created by Lelouch; defeating the symbole of tyranny, also created by Lelouch... genius man... pure genius...
Reminds me a little of Emporer Palpatine / Darth Sideous how he played both sides. Only Lelouch was a Jedi at heart, and not a Sith lol.
I just want to say that Lelouch is my Role Model. The guy is nothing less than a true savior of mankind. Damnit! If only more people in the real world could be like Lelouch.

Ya know, I once theorized, what if Hitler was like the Lelouch of Germany? >_> He wasn't the only racist, and he wasn't the only one unhappy with the results of WWI either.
What if he saw the racism and warmongering of his own people and wanted to use that? He then became the epitomy of those two concepts and showed us all just how evil they are. Nowadays when people think of them they think of the Nazis and shy away. What if that was his true intentions?
We may never know...

That may be true but there's a couple flaws in the idea: 1) Hitler's strategy was too impatient. If he was like lelouch, he would've won in England and than wage war on the rest of the U.S. instead of breaking the pact with Russia. 2) The Cold War happened after WWII. Hitler didn't unite the world closely enough to make a difference.
Other than that, I think the idea makes sense. I don't see anyone going "hiel" to anyone so that's a good sign.

Well, he was more a neutral character for me. he started to interest me when he was doubting for which side he would fight.

Actually, the reason why Kallen seems to suddenly move on is because she's still stuck with the memory of Lelouch calling her a pawn, and thinks that she can make him turn nice again. But with him not returning her kiss, she's trapped with the idea that she loves him, but he doesn't care about her. Which is the opposite of how the viewer interprets it.
Less ranty: love it, and the series. Even if I am a year late to the party.

Well, from what the 'director' told the voice actress, and from what Kallen says in the scene. She wasn't on the "pawn" line. She wanted to know why he suddenly told her that she needed to live on.
Kallen didn't realize she had always been in love with Lelouch this whole time, because she had confused it with loyalty for Zero. It wasn't until she kissed him that she realized her feelings, but by then she was siding with the Black Knights.
If you actually look at the scene of their kiss. They show a close up of both their mouths open and tongues out. It wasn't that Lelouch didn't return the kiss. It was that he wouldn't answer her.
Before, Lelouch was acting as if he had never met anyone before. Though he actually asked for some time alone with Kallen. When they were finally alone it was Lelouch that broke character and talked about all the time at the student counsel building. When you finally realize that Lelouch's plan all along was meant for him to die in the end. This whole scene felt more like a chance for him to see her one last time.

That was the scene in the series where the song that played during their kiss premiered. It sort of set the mood.

In a way it has a tragic beauty to it all. He didn't go out like that. He heroically gave his life for the world and those he loved. It does explain why he wouldn't say anything to Kallen. Not even a lie.

I share your anger Ethren. For days after I saw the end I just kept thinking that there HAD to be a better way to end it. They could at least have let Lelouch tell Kallen his feelings for her before he died or SOMETHING! Or they could have clarified whether or not C.C. had romantic feelings for him or vice versa or......SOMETHING! Yes, it's tragic and beautiful but soooo much goes left unfinished! Lelouch is too fucking cool to go out like that! He could have created a clone, had it take his place, then ran off with Kallen for all I care.
