I made this back in December as a Christmas gift to my boyfriend's family, I have been waiting until they received it to post it. This is a needle felted version of their husky, Trinity, as a Christmas ornament.I'm really happy with how she turned out! I love huskies too, and this was SO much fun to make. She turned out much bigger than I planned though. XD At about 3 1/2 inches tall and 7 inches long, Trinity is a good example of what a larger sized four legged critter from me would look like.
Trinity is made with a florist wire armature and 100% alpaca wool. The black and grey were dyed with Rit dye, and color blends were done with a fabric marker.

Actually, what I use is raw wool. See, with needle felting you're not really using "felt" per say, you're taking the raw wool and felting it yourself with a needle to make a sculpture.
I use raw alpaca wool from a store called Over the Rainbow. Every year around May the lady who runs the farm shears her alpacas and sells huge bags of raw wool. It's a ton of work cleaning it all, but for some one like me who needlefelts a lot it's totally worth it. XD
If you're interested in starting out with needle felting though, the easiest thing would be to just get small bags of wool roving to start with. You can find them in craft stores, or just look for "wool roving" online. Another easy way is to get 100% wool yarn and unravel it out so that you have fluffy bits that you can work with.
