Nephews first birthday coming up so I decided to make him cute educational toys - that are conveniently soft and squishy so that when hurled across the room at peoples heads, they don't do any damage. I've been testing on my flat mate...Minor problem when making these, the alphabet has 26 letters, this does not divide easily without a scary number of cubes, so I have 9 cubes, with the 27th letter being a cute paw print.
Random challenge: The first people who can make a 7 or 8 letter word using the cubes (1 letter from ABC, one letter from DEF...) gets a free keyring of their choice. First person to make a 9 letter word gets a free small knitted commission. Words must be in British English to qualify! And no proper nouns (Place name etc)
Blocks go as follows: 1 - ABC, 2 - DEF, 3 - GHI, 4 - JKL, 5 - MNO, 6 - PQR, 7 - STU, 8 - VWX 9 - YZ
Edit - The 9 letter word was found by ~thingomy and the 8 letter word by *Kizoku-Dearest - they're both doing better than me!

Now seeing as I had a slight head start, if anyone can come up with another 9 letter word in the next couple of days, I'll happilly take a keyring instead.
For anyone interested, I ended up writing a computer program in ruby to solve the problem -- I found only 3 nine letter words in the dictionary I had handy that fitted -- the others were much less topical.
I may post the code somewhere if anyone want's to know the details.

It terrifies me what you can make computer programs do...
I'll keep you posted in case anyone else gets a nine letter word, but if there's only two more chances may be slimmer than I had originally thought!

Lol, I managed a 6 letter word and that was physically holding the things and trying various combinations repeatedly!
