A herd of little birds

One little bird that heard the hoo hoo of the owl
A second bird that heard the hissling of the snake
So little birds don't be a foul
And stay alert and awake
For your own precious sake.

This time I will offer you a small contest.
In this decorative image are hidden a certain number of little birds.
If you count them, you can give the number here in your comment.
Beware: this is not simple, it is an intricate pattern, but I dare you to find them all!

These are the rules:
* count the number of the little birds
* tell me the number in your comment here
* after 2 weeks I will look at the results and the winner(s) will be the people with the correct number
* if there aren't correct answers, I will take 3 winners who will come close to the real number

The winners will receive a smaller version of the picture above, which will be colored by me.
