Description Commission for who wanted a picture of two of her favorite cartoon guys and one of her favorite cartoon girls. Naturally, James seems to have the suave charmer role down pat. Can't say too much for 2D, but hey... When you live in a haunted recording studio that used to be a mad scientist's laboratory, you get your own definition of "romantic"!

Yoruichi is ©Tite Kubo

No, it doesn't. But it was fun to draw.

Gah, finally, someone who doesn't think James is gay. I love how you draw him, btw. Yoruichi turned out good too

Foppish does not equal gay. I blame the whole "he's gay" debacle on the fact that people don't understand comedy these days. Especially hardcore "otaku" geeks. Ugh. People obsessing over cartoons who don't understand or even like cartoons. Stupid people.

I know, right? I wish people would just get the picture already. Although in James's case, it doesn't help that when they put on costumes, he's always in the dress.

Again, cartoon humor that's taken seriously by people who don't understand cartoons. I never once assumed James was gay, but that's because I actually understand and like cartoons. In my opinion, there's far more hints that James is attracted to women, specifically Jessie.

What really grinds my gears is that website I found insisting that all Rocketshippers are idiots because he's clearly gay, and the writers were only putting those bits in as a last-ditch effort to try and make him NOT be gay... do these people not realize that James isn't their character, and it's up to the writers, not them?

Not only that, but the original Japanese version actually includes more jokes about him and Jessie being a couple. The American translators toned down much of it because the gags were rather ambiguous and could have been taken in a much more "adult" manner.

Bah, this is why I always try to watch subs whenever possible.

Honestly, I don't really care one way or the other. In most cases, the dubs are just as accurate and what little changes that may be made aren't really that big a deal. Subtitles distract from the animation for me. The only show I prefer with subtitles is Slayers and that's simply because most of the acting is very bad.

Woah, wait, WHAT? I'd think you, of all people, would like the Slayers dub! Hell, I love that stuff! Not that I'm judging you for having a differing opinion, but I've heard that complaint once before, and having seen three of the movies and the first two seasons, I really can't see it.

The main actors are okay, but much of the supporting cast is horrible. And I just simply think a lot of the voices are mis-placed. Like Lina. Her actress is good, but her voice doesn't fit for me. The running gag in the show is that people think she's a kid because of how petit she is. The English voice for her sounds like an adult and it sort of ruins the joke for me. The Japanese voice sounds very young and adds to it. Similarly, Gourry's voice in the English version just seems off whenever I watch it. When I see him, I imagine him to speak in a deep, dopey voice. The Japanese actor gave him a voice like that and it just fits much better. Slayers is the only situation in which I really do prefer the subtitles if only because a lot of the voices just sound very strange to me in the English version.

*shrugs* Well, I didn't have any pre-conceived notions of how they were supposed to sound, so I suppose that's why the only voice I can really imagine for the characters are those they had in the English dub--plus I've seen the cheesecake-filled comedy anime OVA Labyrinth of Flames, wherein Eric Stuart also plays as a generally hapless (though slightly less stupid) blond swordsman (albeit I use the term very lightly), so the voice already has connotations of dopey-ness for me. And I'm really neutral when it comes to the supporting cast. But hey, live and let live, and may our differences only make our bonds stronger, eh?

FractiousLemon In reply to dungeonmaster11 [2009-10-08 15:15:08 +0000 UTC]

Precisely. I don't really see any reason to get into a tizzy over differences of opinion on a cartoon show anyway. As for any pre-conceived notions, I was about the same with it. It's just that I've heard both sets of voices and personally prefer the Japanese. Heh, but it might just be that Gourry's Japanese actor is so darn funny. He sounds so stupid that I can't help but laugh my head off at everything he says.

Bleach is pretty interesting. Fantastic artwork if nothing else.

Pokemon is a classic. Especially Team Rocket. FTW! >.< only old-school pokemon though...

And Gorillaz pretty much rules the world. They just let Chuck Norris take the credit.

Bleach really grabs me with its emphasis on Japanese legends. I love stories that can take a new spin on an old legend. That and Orihime and Kon are just adorable.

MysticAcademy In reply to FractiousLemon [2009-03-05 19:34:40 +0000 UTC]

Kon is pretty epic, gotta admit. Especially how he acts towards Orihime >.<

Bleach is good, but the emphasis of the storyline changes like every few episodes. In the new arc for example, the word 'hollow' is never even mentioned. What? did the hollows just suddenly disappear?

Dont get me wrong, I still love bleach. But I think the writing is just a little too bent on pleasing the audience.

At the risk of sounding horrifically shallow, as long as there's still a living lion doll with a perverted obsession with being cuddled into "the valley of fluffy pillows," then I'm happy. Hehe.

........

You do have a point. touche.

A perverted character is almost required for a good anime. not gonna lie....

Plus, have you SEEN those MILK MOTELS?!? HOLY CRAP! >.< xD

>.< I used to watch this anime called Desert Punk.

He was perverted, and there was a chick with HUGE boobs, and he would only recognize her by them, and have a new name for em everytime they met xD

"Holy crap! I'd recognize those milk-motels anywhere!" I think her name was Yuca? Its been a while...

I dunno. I'm very picky when it comes to Japanese animation. And I've heard that series is rather bloody. I can't handle anything too gruesome. Honestly, I'm still trying to figure out how I managed to read all of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MysticAcademy In reply to FractiousLemon [2009-03-05 21:53:32 +0000 UTC]

Bloody? I dont really recall much blood at all in Desert Punk... Theres alot of swearing, and some nudity... but not really any blood that I can recall.

I could be mistaken, then.

MysticAcademy In reply to FractiousLemon [2009-03-06 06:31:40 +0000 UTC]

I think so. Desert Punk is too comedy-based. Theres almost no violence in it actually. and when there is, its pretty comical violence.
