Description Halloween Countdown 2007 #8

It's that lovable trio of petty thieves and wannabe gangsters who just don't have the heart for true evil. But then, if they did, we wouldn't love them nearly so much! Anyone who knows me well could have predicted that Team Rocket would pop up in this countdown (congratulations to my brother Seth for correctly guessing that they'd be in here). These three goofballs have a special place in my heart for showing me that Japanese cartoons ain't all bad and that some of them can be absolutely hilarious! That and Jessie was my first crush. I know. I'm a pathetic little man.

I think at this point I should also state that these countdown pictures are in no particular order of levels of evil or how fitting the characters are for Halloween. If they were, then WOW! Jessie, James, and Meowth right after Boris and Natasha? That's definitely taking a BIG drop off of the evil scale! Tomorrow's characters will be much more evil than this, though, so stay tooned--er, tuned!

Team Rocket, Jessie (Musashi), James (Kojiro), and Meowth (Nyase) are Β©Nintendo and Satoshi Tajiri

They are Toons. Doesn't matter the style or country of origin, animated characters are Toons.

HA! This is so great. I love seeing them in the more 'cartoony' style. They really are the best bad guys, simply because they're really... NOT bad guys.

Awesome cartoony style!

Jessie's earring reminds me of Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga...

That face is actually a little doodle I always draw beside my signature. It made me laugh when I played Superstar Saga because I kept thinking that I must have somehow drawn all of those backgrounds while asleep or something. Shame, too, because I can't draw backgrounds nearly that well while I'm awake!

I love this. I think Jessie and James should've been in a romantic relationship in the actual show.

FractiousLemon In reply to Whammy51 [2010-07-27 15:28:36 +0000 UTC]

It was occasionally implied throughout the cartoon that they were, and they eventually got married in the original comic book.

Hehe, yeah, too right
Though I sometimes wonder if Jessie uses hair gel, and if she does, how much must she get through XD Cos her hair goes down when it gets wet sometimes

FractiousLemon In reply to TwilightandAnimefan [2010-05-31 23:50:51 +0000 UTC]

I think it's one of those cartoon laws you're not supposed to question as there have been gags that imply both that she DOES use gel and that she DOESN'T.

I should've commented on this a long time ago haha. I adore this picture sooo much <3 I can't stop staring at Jessie's face, she looks so damn badass!

And Jessie was my first girl-crush, so at least you're not alone [besides the fact that I'm not interested in girls haha].

I love the darker color for Meowth. Something about really seems more American than his lighter fur xD

Heh, I'm glad you like the darker colors for Meowth. It was actually a coloring error that I often make. I tend to think he's darker than he actually is. Same thing with me making his hands brown.

neopuff In reply to FractiousLemon [2010-03-27 20:30:54 +0000 UTC]

FractiousLemon In reply to neopuff [2010-03-28 03:49:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, though I think I'll avoid the darker hands from now on. The detail is hard to see.

I love drawing Jessie, James, and Meowth, so I'm sure I'll put more more of them sooner or later. I actually have a silly idea in mind for them as we speak. I'd like to try my hand at some romantic images of Jessie and James, but I fear my expertise really is more in comedy than romance.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

neopuff In reply to FractiousLemon [2010-03-28 04:02:43 +0000 UTC]

Romantic comedy is always an option 8D Variety is fun, and I'd die happy seeing a romantic image of them in your style haha.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

FractiousLemon In reply to neopuff [2010-03-28 04:06:26 +0000 UTC]

I consider this sort of a "romantic comedy" image. Jessie and James being ludicrously over-the-top in their little tango and all. Though I suppose I could give it a whirl some time.

neopuff In reply to FractiousLemon [2010-03-28 04:28:13 +0000 UTC]

I can just imagine it...:D It's already gorgeous haha. I'd love to see that! And I know I'm not the only one. Those two just love touching each other so much mhmm.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

FractiousLemon In reply to neopuff [2010-03-28 16:37:29 +0000 UTC]

There were a number of subtle dialogue jokes that hinted they were a couple as well. And, apparently, there were more in the original Japanese version but they were toned down for American audiences.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

neopuff In reply to FractiousLemon [2010-03-28 20:20:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the only real shipping in the show ever done was in the second movie with Meowth mocking them, and it was a lot less subtle in the original.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

FractiousLemon In reply to neopuff [2010-03-29 01:54:36 +0000 UTC]

Not exactly. Jessie and James share a rather serene little moment together at the end of "Holy Matrimony!" and if I'm not mistaken, there are a few times when one of them gets a jealous expression if the other is getting a lot of attention from the opposite sex. I recall the episode with the doctor hitting on Jessie when they're helping at the hospital, as well as Jessie's jealous outbursts during "Ghost of Maiden's Peak" (despite her lame attempts to say that she's not jealous, just annoyed. *laughs*)

That aside, there's some pretty funny dialogue between them now and then, too. Like one line that I'm always surprised made it past the censors, when Jessie sees a gigantic pokemon and says "That's the biggest pokemon I've ever seen! It should be worth millions!" and then James responds coldly "So size DOES matter..."

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

neopuff In reply to FractiousLemon [2010-03-29 02:03:56 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, there are lots of hints, I was talking more about dialogue from other characters. There are tons of little hints here and there throughout the whole show that they can't get rid of in the dub haha! Including, like, the entire episode 'Training Daze'.

Haha, I love that line! There's another one that's a lot more obvious...it's during a motto, Jessie says, "We need something to stop all that chafing and itching!" and James goes, "Maybe it'll stop all of Jessie's...complaining." Not so shippy...but I love Eric Stuart for that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

FractiousLemon In reply to neopuff [2010-03-29 13:35:18 +0000 UTC]

*laughs* Yeah, that is a funny line. As for the relationship between the two, that wasn't so much what 4Kids took issue with. It was more that most of the jokes about their relationship suggested something a bit more than an innocent romantic interest, if you catch my drift.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

neopuff In reply to FractiousLemon [2010-03-29 19:35:34 +0000 UTC]

It's hard not to suggest that, when they're always touching each other haha. I believe the term is WrongRocketshipping and it's amazing.

neopuff In reply to FractiousLemon [2010-03-31 00:55:04 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely! There's this one youtube video with a whole bunch of Pokemon [but mostly the favorite Rocket trio] screencaps in awkward positions to some song...Oi Beibei or something, apparently the lyrics are worse than from the song "The Bad Touch" by The Bloodhound Gang [and that's pretty bad haha].

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

FractiousLemon In reply to powerpuffhinata [2009-04-24 12:28:05 +0000 UTC]

Jessie's and James' outfits are pretty much the same as ever. I just gave them a little twist to feel more like something I'd draw, hence the oversized boots as well as the buckles on them.

As for Meowth, I had the idea of Jessie and James doing some over-the-top tango pose, so why not have the third teammate dressed as their personal mariachi?
