That stuff is silicon carbide. They wouldn't have had any other chemicals stored, all you need to make the stuff is sand and carbon. The only danger you are in from that stuff is if you slip on it.

nah, there is TONS of other shit in there from various factories in the falls. caborundum, alox, etc. i don't know when the factory closed, but it became a dumping ground. the EPA removed tons of stuff already, i don't know why they stopped and left the rest there. the whole place is covered in powdery black dust (ash? i dunno but it turns to sludge when it's wet) and this guy who worked there said they used scrap metal and iron to make silicon carbide...

Silicon Carbide is the same stuff as Carborundum. I think that carborundum used to be a trade name for the stuff that caught on because carbide sounds so silly. I've only just looked this up, but apparently you can add iron into the mix to make electrically conductive carborundum. I have no idea why anybody would want conductive abrasives, but meh. The black stuff is most likely to be carbon dust, charcoal probably. Alox is just aluminium oxide, and that again is one of the most unreactive chemicals ever and even if you ate it the main danger would only be getting it stuck in your throat.

i meant that Carborundum, and Alox were both factories in the falls that dumped stuff in that location. Alox the company was on Buffalo Ave and made antifreeze. everything in the falls was owned by Carborundum/Union Carbide at sometime it seems haha. They've left behind quite a toxic legacy. Most of their propertys fell under ownership of other chemical companies, like Occidental, but Carborundum/UC destroyed all their records on where they burried things. So no one knows til their back yard starts on fire that they're living on a toxic waste dump. see also: love canal, buffalo ave, the river itself etc. i don't worry about inhaling stuff at the locations i shoot since i live here with all this crap anyway hahaha
