The flames are all gone, but the pain lingers on.

not my best work at all but i just needed to create something.
it's been too long.

this is based on a dream i had a couple weeks ago.
i was crouched and moving along behind a blasted wall, listening to the thrum-thrum of the hover-tanks moving past on the other side, hoping the soldiers didn't spot me with their infrared goggles. i came across a dead (?) man leaning there, not moving. when crouched beside him he pointed to the stapled up wounds on his head and told me how he had been captured and tortured by the enemy. how they would cut open their captives chests, peel the tops of their skulls off and prod in their brains. his last words to me before i woke up were 'these are the scars i earned in the war.'
