Came across this pic on my hard drive,add HellboyII on DVD ...and I gots me Hellboy on the brains.
I've never drawn him before, but seemed like a fun idea... plus Batman was a bonus. The commission was part of an art trade that eventually helped me cross paths with Mike Mignola. I know a kind word from a fan-favorite of mine shouldn't matter that much, but it did. And kinda glad that I have not become completely jaded, even after all these years.

I love Hellboy. Hell of a first attempt (if you'll pardon the pun...). Batman doesn't work as well for me, but still a damn fine rendering. Actually, he looks like he could be playing darts with that stake!

This looks great! Hellboy's pose is great, but something about Batman looks a little... off, to be honest.

I agree with you, AEN THE ARTIST. Something got lost in the translation. I don't hate it, but it is not exactly the way I pictured him... I know that can be said about every piece I do, but this is a bit more.
Maybe because I switched it up midstream. I originally envisioned Bats to be swinging his Batarang over his head like a lasso, but later opted out for him holding a Wooden Stake. The hand that was feeding the rope out of the utility belt changed to hold an enchanted talisman instead. Although it was not my intention, he ended up looking like he is reeling backwards more than I probably wanted to.

Enough time has passed, that I can see it with fresh eyes. I would do it completely different today... but that was me doing my best at the time. And at the end of the day, it was a fun pic to doodle on.
