I completely agree with this tutorial and I hate to draw Nick's (and Judy's too) front paws. And I hate to watch any of Zootopia arts where animals have proportions of human. So that's why I don't like furry fandom (unlike Zootopian fandom) because they are not anthropomorphic animals, but just humans with tails and animals' heads.

P. S. Sorry for my English

The fur fandom is pretty ruined when it comes to what they think works.Β  The torso's specially (when it comes to tails, they keep wanting to draw them far up the back that I feel like they don't want to deal with how in the world could these guys bother stringing them through the seat of their pants all the time, since that's basically what we've seen cartoon animals do, they barely have much in the way of an butt, yet they want to emphasis that as well).

Accustomed as I am to drawing humans, it was a punishment for me to be able to adjust my skill to draw Zootopia's funny animals, especially Nick's hands, which are actually paws, which runs counter to everything I've learned in terms of human anatomy (or animal anatomy, by the way).

Bonus: Nick Bravo! Β

WOOOOOO!!!!

Nick stuff!

I gotta say, the Johnny Bravo Nick is awesome XD

And no, he's definitely not buff... Finnick is (doing the math, the pawpsicleΒ weighs more than Nick and Fin is about 2.5 pounds).

Naked Nick needs some body spray... or repellent ^_^

This is great!

I did like how the feet are in that perfect look I sorta dig seeing myself (three toes are always easier than four).Β  One thing about animal feet is noticing how rather uniform they tend to be shape-wise.Β  If they had worn boots for instance, either foot would need to have a particular side as right/left differences appear to be nonexistent than it is for humans.Β  I suppose that opens up it's own problems much in the way people might have a hangover in figuring how what a four-fingered character could do gesture-wise (of course in this film we get animals with three fingers too).

Omg I love it <3 Nick is such a cutie x3

Nick as Johnny Bravo omg xD

Honestly, I disagree with Nick not being buff. I think his time in the ZPD academy would buff him up, not a lot, but a little.

Also, Nick's footpaw at the bottom <3

IncognitoMode77 In reply to Jandreau [2017-09-14 14:21:38 +0000 UTC]

We actually see him after the police training and he is no Johnny Bravo. The difference seems rather minute as well. .

Fair point, nonetheless.

BlueDouble [2017-07-26 21:22:29 +0000 UTC]

Very good stuff! I personally have no end of trouble with Nick's legs. I just can't seem to wrap my head around how the shapes flow from the waist to knee and back into the ankle! One thing that helped me a lot with his hands though was noticing that they seem to be long and rectangular with short fingers. A human hand is about 50/50 with length of palm and digits, but his are something like 70/30.Β  Β

I'm curious what Nick would look like with stylistically accurate muscle gain though. I'd guess that most of it would be around the torso and bases of the limbs, giving him a more tapered look.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

studio-toledo In reply to BlueDouble [2018-01-03 07:37:18 +0000 UTC]

I would think a tapered look is pretty accurate when it comes to how animal legs are drawn from the waist to the ankles.Β  It's always thick around the thighs to the knees and then drops past the shins.Β  It just feels more natural a look than trying to 'humanize' them further (especially for canids as they tend to have shorter legs by default when you put them upright with their feet planted like that).Β  There's a bit of fudging that has to be implemented like lengthening the shins but it's a small price to pay for wanting a desired look to your anthro's.Β
