“This dress is ridiculous. The length is absurd,” Cordy complained, gathering the obscenely long train in her arms and shoving them towards Les. The dress and make up made her feel more glamorous than anything in her closet ever had. “Not as ridiculous as your whining, though.”
He took the lush fabric as they ascended the stairs to a balcony entrance to the formal gathering, the moon gently lighting the tile beneath their feet. The sound of music and laughter drift towards them. The crisp air of the night seemed to suggest a fresh, clean start for the siblings. Neither one trusted it, but both eagerly to test the feeling. “Com’mon, Cords," Les grumbled, "I don’t belong in there. You’re the warrior princess star thingy. They’re all like you. I’m just. . .”
“You’re just the Anteres star, without which my constellation is incomplete. Besides, she might be in there,” Cordy took the train from his arms and brushed out the wrinkles with a chuckle. "Ah ha, you didn’t know I knew. I may be falling apart here, but I wasn’t blind to your antics before we left Florida nor your reaction when you saw her here. Tamra, I think her name is. “
“Oh right, like I’m the only one," Les rolled his eyes. "You’ve been avoiding Wolfboy like your overdue cellphone bills. You get that sea sick look and find the nearest cover before. . . Stop laughing at me!”
Straightening the collar of Les’ tieless black shirt, Cordy smiled playfully at her brother, “That’s rich. It’s not the same and you know it. Four words for you, dear brother: Stop. Being. A. Pussy. Literally and figuratively. Man up. Go in there, find that girl, and . . .”
Cordy gasped as a small figure rushed by them. The young woman didn’t even notice them, she moved dedicatedly and swift along some invisible route. Nearly breathless, as if the world would shatter, Cordy spoke so quietly, “Caine.”
The wave and curl of her hair. The scar on her face. Instantly caught in a flashback, Cordy was Serket running at a breakneck speed towards the battling Scorpion and the Hunter. The girl’s scar, even at seconds glimpse, matched the slice Akar had carved to her love.
Like a phantom limb, Cordy’s soul ached from memories she did not think she could feel again. The curly haired nymph moved past them unaware of what she’d left her in her wake. Cordelia's fingers pressed to the corset of her gown. Her chest seized up as her heart threaten to explode and her lungs refused to inhale. Liquid stars cascaded down her rouged cheeks, leaving small rivers.
Les looked at the trim figure getting smaller as she moved passed the gardens towards the woods with a hesitant laugh, “That can’t be him. I remember him being taller and distinctly male.”
“My god, Les. That’s Orion. She must be a descendent . . . oh my god, I’ve gotta . . . “Frantically kicking off her heels, she moved to chase after the girl. Her breath began hitching and her jaw trembling as a wave of implications washed her. “Did you see her face? Her eyes? I just need to . . . Oh god, Caine.”
Then Les saw and understood. Oh god. Orion.
“Cordy, listen t’me. I’ll go. I’ll follow her and make sure she is okay." Grabbing her hand, he pulled her to a stop. Her shaking was increasing and her eyes were hazing over. "I’ve got this, Cordy. Cordy, It’s gonna be alright.”
“Stop saying that name! Just stop, Akar,” Cordelia snapped harshly. She pulled away from him and moved to the railing of the balcony, squeezing her eyes shut in an attempt to quell of emotions threatening to drown her. Akar had drawn her to him and cradled her as visions of Egypt and blood flooded her mind. No, not Akar. Les. He was Les now. Even if his words of comfort were in whispered Egyptian now, he was Les. Yes, he was Les and she was Cordy. And that girl was . . . that girl was the Orion. Even though she had only seen the hair and scar, everything in her soul knew it. Wiping tears away, Cordy opened her eyes, muttering, “It’s okay, Les. I’m okay. Will you just go and. . . ?”
“I’ll go check on her," he agreed, "Just breathe through it, Ukhti*.”Frustration swept through him as he realized she had erected her wall, and he bit back his demand that she take it down. At least she needed him to follow after the girl. Letting Cordy go, he glanced towards the ballroom with confliction, having prolonged a long awaited meeting. Cordy nodded, assuring him she was fine, and watched as he followed Orion’s path towards the forest.
* Ukhti means “my sister” in Egyptian (if this is incorrect. Please let me know.)

All the Cordy feels. I can never stop aching because of her heartbreak. ScorpiusCaine is an OTP, no matter how much playing around he did before her! And it's so great to see the siblings interact; such a close family bond, but a great depiction of how some things change with age, but not everything - and that includes your family.
