Description
When i first saw him in the 86 animated movie, he became one of my favorites. When i was making my Transformers Regeneration series, i knew i had to do my version of him.I look at Kup as a war weary, grizzled veteran who has almost seen it all, been there and done that. Very old school, no fuss just results. So the rifle that i gave him was patterned after the Remmington rifle and his vehicle mode is 007's iconic car, the 1965 Aston Martin DB5, with modern mug wheel design.
Here is his rival Stinger: frederickofolympus.deviantart.β¦

I still remember that one iconic scene from the Transformers movie where he grabbed onto Blitzwing's tank turret, flipped on top of him and diverted his aim of fire away from Hot Rod.Β

Ah, okay! I was a little worried after hearing that there was a bad typhoon at Philippines on December, but I'm glad to see you're alright!

Thanks! It wasn't a big or super typhoon like a couple or few years back more like strong rains.

That would be a good vehicle mode for Kup.

Kup would be a classic car or a post war pick up.

Kup might be a older model, but he will keep on going when others are scrap metal.

I know that's why i chose that particular Aston Martin model. His character reminds of me of guys like Charles Bronson, Steve Mcqueen, Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry character and Sean Connery, the original James Bond himself. The old grizzled tough as nails veteran who is rugged and can still kick @$$. And i feel that particular Aston Marton reflects who he is, old school class and charm.

And will still keep working even after the newer models have bitten the dust. That is one thing I like about old cars, they were designed to be workhorses. Kup is a lot like the people you listed and he knows how to handle himself. No wonder the Dinobots love him.

I really do not know much about Transformers now. They have grown leaps and bounds since my boys played with Transformers.
I like this one as i am a fan of the Aston Martin.
Of course, it is also very well executed.

Why thank you! You obviously can see that i'm a fan of Generation One, the 80's classic series. I have followed most of the series that came after G1 like Beast Wars, Armada, Cybertron, Energon, Animated and Prime but i still liked G1 the best simply because i grew up with that Transformers and the toys are cool. I'm sure you very well agree.
What about my Kup design that you liked? I'm all ears.

It flows well. All the intricate parts are represented well.
I like that, and that Aston Martin looks great!

If you've read my character description of Kup, he is that old grizzled vet who has seen it all, been there and done that type of guy. No fuss and frills, just a straight shooter. Reminds me of old Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson, Sean Connery, Steve Mcqueen, those type of guys.
When i do these character designs, i usually look at the character profile, their supposed age and their old vehicle mode and what is the modern equivalent that fits their persona. And me choosing 007's iconic car ain't a bad choice i say. The fact that it's done in blue green too is cool, since you don't see DB5's done in this particular color.
Thanks for the wonderful comment.

The vehicle choice and the color. They're pretty fitting for a veteran Autobot.

Well i do dig the 65 Aston Martin DB6 and Kup reminds me of tough movie stars like John Wayne, Steve McQueen, Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson and yes, Sean Connery. Just like my version of Sentinel Prime he belongs to a different era and that gives him character.

Oh yeah, no argument there. I've considered a Kup design based on a late 70s Ford F150, but this looks very interesting.

Yeah. The key here is the attitude of the character and if the particular vehicle fits the Transformer in terms of looks, character and overall design.

Did you color it by hand or use Photoshop, or something else?
π: 0 β©: 1
frederickofolympus In reply to Xnighite [2012-08-10 16:44:02 +0000 UTC]
I do my rough draft sketch using HB pencils, then clean the final design using 0.3 point mechanical pencils. I first render the primary or base poster color paint then tighten the final details with outline and shadow also with poster color paint.
After that, i send my finished work to my friend havydragon for him to clean it up using Photoshop.

I loved how the colors compliment each other especially the blues, the lines that help bring out the littlest of details, the overall shading of where shadows bonce off the metal, and the position he's standing in which comes off to me like sheer confidence.
I also love the Autobots, and he's a nice looking one, and his vehicle mode (to me) is a really nice, old style car.
Oh, and thanks for the like! o^-^o)

Thanks. If you've seen his G1 toy you'll be extermely disappointed and i was so that's why i really wanted to create my version of Kup and what i think he should look like in toy form, since he's a cool badass character in his own way.
I like your analysis and that shows you've got a good grasp of design illustration. And i agree with your assesment, since you hit it right off the bat with what i'm trying to achieve with Kup. It's rare that i get comments like yours so thanks.
As for me putting you on my watchlist, well, i do like dragons and fantasy stuff a lot so it was a pleasure.

I agree with you that the Transformers G1 toy could have looked a lot better; maybe the company was being lazy and only cared about the really centered-on main characters (although they were all pretty much main characters)
Thanks for noticing my way of seeing art, even though I wish I was good at design illustration-type stuff . Thanks *again*
And I salute you and thank you very much for adding me to your watchlist ; I should warn you that I don't post as often as I want to, so please don't get too agitated if nothing new comes out for a month or two. My school work takes a lot of time out of me.
