These two pages took a fairly brief amount of time. The scene is a fairly obvious derivative of the images of cities in Fritz Lang's Metropolis, though more rhizomatic in its layout, going down in development as well as up.
My three rules for the setting of my webcomic are as follows. 1: No ray guns. 2: No holograms. 3: No flying cars. This way, I can avoid the usual visual tropes of the "future", in favor of something which feels partly like today, partly like a century ago, and partly like Near Future science fiction, while being much more strange and fantastical than all of these.
The inclusion of biplanes and airships in place of flying cars was partly an inheritance from Metropolis, and partly a joke on my part about how flying cars would be a stupid idea.
