Subjectivity sickness.

The subjectivity backdoor allows someone's subjectivity to directly interface with technology around it, collapsing the difference between organic and machine further than before. It allows the "inner" to be an expression of the "outer", where normally that is metaphysically impossible.

The existence of this technology in-universe disproves racism, phrenology, physiognomy, body language pseudoscience, and even lie detection, but the hyper-capitalist society of the webcomic is too deluded and ignorant to see this, so they mainly relegate it to places such as space travel, medical cybernesis, and occasional neural uploading.

The system of space travel in-setting relies on the navigator fully comprehending and experiencing the subjectivities of everyone on board, which almost always causes some level of subjectivity sickness. Nausea, anemia, fainting, delusions, and brief paralysis are common symptoms to having one's total self-experience observed by an entity outside of their own mind. The more guarded someone is about their true experiences, however, the worse the sickness becomes.
