Description

Wellwellwell...This came out a lot different in the end than I planned in the sketch...not quite right to the certain chapter in the book, but....

Finally another Lord of the Rings and watercolour illustration! Ready on the final day before going to New Zealand. Yeay! (yeah, I rushed a bit in the end. )

After leaving Tom Bombadil's house, the four hobbits rest in the Barrow-Downs...just to be caught by a barrow-wight and Frodo freeing his friends from the curse.

I really liked the scene (chapter 8, first book) when I read the book, and was a bit disappointed when there was no trace of it in the movie. No, I won't start with Tom Bombadil. Why, Peter Jackson, why?

Oh yeah, I always think that one day my scanner will make a good image from a watercolour/gold and silver gouache painting.

No.

If time allows it, I try to take a piicture with the camera tomorrow and update it.

Beautiful work-it’s really nice to see a scene that was in the books and not some rehash movie image.

Wow! I really love this illustration, good job on those colors, the shading, lighting the gold and the looming figure in the back Simply stunning! I wondered why I didn't recognise it. Too bad they left that out :<

Very few actors could have pulled off Tom Bombadil. The only one I can imagine could've done it was Gene Wilder.

Really nicely done. Yeah, I was not happy that Tom was left out of the movie.

Because screentime is money...

Cold be hand and heart and bone,
and cold be sleep under stone:
never more to wake on stony bed,
never, till the Sun fails and the Moon is dead.
In the black wind the stars shall die,
and still on gold here let them lie,
till the dark lord lifts up his hand
over dead sea and withered land.

Frodo:
Ho! Tom Bombadil, Tom Bombadillo!
By water, wood and hill, by the reed and willow,
By fire, sun and moon, hearken now and hear us!
Come, Tom Bombadil, for our need is near us!

Tom:
Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow,
Bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow.
None has ever caught him yet, for Tom, he is the master:
His songs are stronger songs, and his feet are faster.

Get out, you old wight! Vanish in the sunlight!
Shrivel like the cold mist, like the winds go wailing,
Out into the barren lands far beyond the mountains!
Come never here again! Leave your barrow empty!
Lost and forgotten be, darker than the darkness,
Where gates stand for ever shut, till the world is mended.

Nice picture!

And yeah - Tom Bombadil is difficult to integrate into the story; he is just too careless and powerful. Plus with his yellow (rubber?) boots he dosen't seem to fit very well into a grim fantasy story...
