Description Believe it or not it is exactly ten years since my 12th birthday - the year I got my first games console, a Sony Playstation, was 1999. I had already been playing games on the PC, but it wasn't a dedicated games console. Once I got my zealously anticipated new console, I was never off it! Then, in late 2001 on my 14th birthday I got a Playstation 2. I bought a Gamecube in early 2004 with Xmas money (and my friends all had them). My interest in games slowly waned a little but never expired during the middle of the noughties. The excitement I had at the end of the 90s had pretty much gone.

Eventually I got back into gaming when I got a Playstation 3 as a gift for Xmas 2008. My pals who owned Wiis weren't too happy with the gimmickyness of them, and I refused to consider an Xbox 360 because my brother already had one and I didn't fancy any of his games. So I went for the aforementioned PS3, and I'm satisfied that I made the right descision.

The three depictions of me drawn above are simply depictions of my furry self at the ages of 12, 17 and 22 respectively! It's been a long decade, but I enjoyed the best games I played during that time - they're not all illustrated above, but it should give you an indication as to what games meant a lot to me over the last ten years. Enjoy!

I didn't own a Playstation when I was little, but my cousin in New York (who's the same age as you) did, and when I went up to visit the family in my youth, we'd always play it together. Some games I have fond memories of would have to be Spyro, Croc, and NASCAR Rumble, which is pretty much what would happen if NASCAR and Mario Kart mated and had a baby I eventually ended up being given the old system as a hand-me-down gift! I treasure it along with my good ol' N64

I see GTA: San Andreas on here Not really a veteran of the GTA games, but my cousin owned GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas and I used to have a blast watching him play them when I was about a teenager. He'd do all sorts of crazy stuff on purpose like intentionally driving off the top of Mt. Chiliad just to see what would happen I still crack up remembering the one quote CJ would say in San Andreas when he was free-falling without a parachute: "I HATE GRAVITY!!" *SPLAT!* If I ever find myself falling to my death, I need to say that before I hit the ground!

Here is my story about the video games which I had played all my life -

1981

I first saw about the Pacman video game in a petrol staton/corner shop but never played it. I didn't have the time or the money. I first saw about the Space Invaders video game on TV at home. It had inspired me to imitate the sound effects of the Space Invaders video game.

1982 - 1986

I saw so many video games in some shops and in some video game arcades that I couldn't remember the titles of any of those video games. However, I can clearly remember playing some educational video games and some leisure video games on the Commodore 64 computer in our house. I played a video arcade game in a pub in Brisbane in 1985 - Pole Position (car racing video game). I played IFR Flight Simulator in 1985 and in 1986 on the Commodore 64 computer - the game lets you fly a Cessna 172 in a made-up land and terrain which doesn't exist on the real geography of earth. The game had instructions for navigating your way through the made-up land and terrain. I tried it ten times over and I was unsuccessful.

1987

Played the following -

IFR Flight Simulator (was still unsuccessful; gave up)
Space Invaders
Pacman
Arkanoid
Spy Hunter

1988

Played the following -

Commando
Double Dragon

1991

Played the following -

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

1992

Played the following -

Robo Cop
Sonic The Hedeghog
After Burner

1993

Chess (Microsoft)

1995

Tetris (Microsoft)
Solitaire (Microsoft)

1996

Played the following -

Starwing (Starfox)
International Cricket
Doom I
Doom II
Sonic 2 (Sonic and Miles "Tails" Prower)
Bubsy the Bobcat
The Lion King

1997

Played the following -

Crash Bandicoot

1999

Played the following -

Tekken 3 and Gran Turismo (Played those games together with a friend in his house in Newcastle; the console with the game was connected to an old TV; the TV looked late 70s)

Lylat Wars (Starfox)
Road Rash 3D
Gran Turismo (played the game on my own in my flat)
Doom 64
Banjo Kazooie
Space Jam (played Wile, Taz and Pepe)

2001

Played the following -

Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings (Microsoft)
Dune 2000 (Microsoft)

I played a Star Wars video game which is similar to the Doom II video game. The game lets you do a role play of a Jedi Knight. Press a key on the Microsoft computer keyboard to use a laser gun, a green lightsaber, force pull, etc. I can't remember the title of that Star Wars video game.

2002

Played the following -

Conker's Bad Fur Day (Conker the Squirrel)

2003

I first saw the "Sly Cooper" video game on the commercial of the "Sly Raccoon" video game on a Saturday morning music video show but I never played it. I didn't have the time or the money.

2004

I first saw the "Ty the Tasmanian Tiger" video game in a museum in the Brisbane town hall but I never played it. I didn't have time to play it - especially when I saw that there was a seven year old boy playing it first.

2006

Played the following -

Microsoft Flight Simulator X

I gave myself a second chance for using a flight simulator program and I was successful from that time until now. The program has the real-life geography of earth and you can go anywhere around the world.

2007

Played the following -

Arkanoid (downloaded the game on my mobile phone/cell phone; made a reunion to my favourite 80s game)
Arkanoid (the huge boxy-shaped arcade game console made a comeback in a pub in Sydney; played it)

2009

I bought my first Nintendo DS console; played the following on my Nintendo DS -

SimAnimals
Over The Hedge

2011

I bought my first Wii Console; played the following on my Wii -

Wii Sports (Boxing; Baseball; Golf)
Tron Evolution
SimAnimals

Crazy Penguin Assault (mobile phone/cell phone; similar to Angry Birds)

2012

Played the following -

Wolf Toss (Microsoft - Google Chrome; similar to Angry Birds)
Angry Birds (Microsoft - Google Chrome)

From Magnavox Odessey to Nintendo Wii U.

Yes they were, but in this picture I only depict the games and consoles I played and owned since I started good and proper in 1999. Hence the Odyssey and Mega Drive and the like do not get a mention. I think the new Wii U is a waste of time.

Yeah, years through gaming. Something to look at when you lose interest of them. But my years were interesting.

1997-Born
1999-Completely knew every part of the computer. First game: Deer Hunter 2 (or Need for Speed High Stakes. Either one.)
2001-Started playing PS2. Became interested in Star Wars.
2002-Got my own PS2. Started to take an interest in NASCAR, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and gaming itself.
2003-Started to get interested in Sly Cooper.
2005-Started to take an interest in the Sonic series with the game Shadow The Hedgehog. Obtained Xbox Original (I think it was this year)
2007-Got my own Xbox 360. Got into the M games.
2008-Got my Wii. Became active.
2009-Got my PS3. Began my online career.
And now, 2011-More social than ever online, still own all my consoles, and having a helluvah good time with them.

I know, this should be a journal, but !viarail136 started it.

Reminds me of my own gaming childhood, except we were still using the Mega Drive until about '98 when we sold it. Didn't get another console until about 2000 when we got a PS2, which we STILL have!
Made up for lost gaming when my bro jumped on the retro games bandwagon and bought just about every console sold from 1986-2006. No PS3 but.
Still play PC games more than console.

I reckon. I tried playing C&C on a friends Playstation once, I can't imagine how he did it without a mouse and keyboard.
Heh, just remembered that durring a clean up last week I came across a whole box (well, more like a loose pile behind a box) of old PC games, including the original C&C and it's manual.

Not at all. The only FPS games I could really connect to were 'Doom', 'Quake II', 'Goldeneye', 'erfect Dark' and 'Half Life'.

There are too many overly futuristic war FPS games going about now it makes me cringe. You can't tell which one's the best.
