Description
full view of the Predator, Captain Grimm's ship. Captain Grimm is one of the main characters in Jim Butcher's new series, the Ashen Spires.I am quite happy with the model even though the webbings and the rigging of the masts are... somewhat rudimentary. I had a hard time figuring out Butcher's descriptions and that is what I came up with.
modelled in C4d rendered with iray in DAZ, sails in MD4

what I often wondered about the cinder spire ships is why none of them seem to be equipped with a ball turret along the keel, like a B17 bomber. Seems a good idea to place a cannon when your fighting in 3 dimensions. Great work I like the cannons especially.Β

Maybe it has something to do with the veils? It definitely would make more sense, but if you are a naval person who has a deck, and a clearly defined surface maybe something like that isn't quite as obvious

lol. Well... I don't understand the first thing about ships but it's not exactly a sailing vessel. So you would have to ask that the author of the book.

It's not really aboutΒ the ship, per say, it's because it's floating in the same air that's blowing it about.Β Boats can tack because the water they float in doesn't move at the same speed as the air that's blowing them about.
Balloons can't tack either.

well.. this ship isn't propelled by wind... rather something like energy coming from crystals that are on board ship. They provide the uplift and part of the ahead drive. And the sails catch additional energy through the energy that runs through the air... a bit like the magnetism as far as I understood the concept. So part of the drive energy is by the ship, making it manouvrable, the speed derives from experior power. If I remember well. It's a bit hard to understand another person's mind while the story and the concepts still develop

well... I guess it's really the power of nature and not the model that does the job

That is absolutely stunning
May I ask you how you exported it from C4D and imported it in DAZ.
I tried obj with my cars, but after importing to DAZ I only have a single object.

Well... the ship itself is also only a single object.., the canons were independently exported, and placed. I haven't found a good way to export a whole set and keep it... movable, you have to export each piece individually, if it is supposed to be moveable... and probably assign it a null at the axis point, as DAZ does give everything a world null... at least as far as I figured out. But to export and import I usually use riptide pro, a plug-in ... it exports the material information and so you can keep your textures and materialzones intact.

Thanks. I use Riptide Pro for importing. Need to try the export option and might have to tweak the settings.
