Description
*Edit, 31 July 2012: These signals have been removed and replaced with SafeTran devices. So much for C&O nostalgia...CSX 411 prepares to drop the signal at CP WE Ivy westbound out of Charlottesville, VA on the old C&O main. It's difficult to see here, but new signals are being installed to replace the old color-light signals that have controlled this area since the C&O.

And a very lacking maintenance record. Rails in the siding date to 1927, the main to 1947. Also note the roadbed washing out on the left of the siding track - in some areas to the point that I could slide a foot under the ties. And some of those aren't even spiked to the rails anymore...

Well they'll learn to keep it up to par eventually when a train spreads the rails or derails or something.

I'm more interested to see how well-maintained the enormous trestle nearby is... SUPPOSEDLY the speed limit on this line is 15 MPH, but this train appeared to be going faster than that. I guess since this is a secondary route that primarily hauls coal it's not a huge target for funds, though they've managed to start installing new signals in the meantime to replace the perfectly functional C&O signals. Go figure, it's CSX.

Heck that diamond in Selma here in North Carolina where NS track crosses CSX and vise versa has the dirt washing out from under it.

Well that's not at all frightening to think about...
