One of my favorite lucky finds. I found a pine board in the scrap bin at a lumber store. I could see an owls wings in the swirls and grains. I spent hours drawing an owl that would make perfect use of the board to its full potential.Sometimes you have a goal, sometimes you have an inspiration, and sometimes you just find a piece of art that needs to be rearranged to make it work.

It is almost an intarsia carving style. I have more depth and color then normal intarsia and never use paint or stain. I work from my own patterns (mostly commissions from photo's of peoples pets) and only one time each pattern.

I realy have to work myself up to doing the birds. This is my second barn owl done in the spring of 2005, and in the summer of 2004 I did a humming bird. That's all the birds so far of hundreds of carvings. I really need to think about doing another. They sell so well at auction.

I'm just starting to cut Henry out this afternoon. I've spent the morning on wood selection. Then I have a horse (in my fav page) and about 9 custom orders to do. You can see them as they come out at my website down in my signature. I have a page called "On the Bench" where the new carvings are listed and displayed. No time for birds right now, but I will start looking for one to do.
