Description Here are several views of a fictional exploration vehicle I designed and built a few years ago. I had read a novel by Basil Copper called"The Great White Space" which was a kind of Lovecraft pastiche but I enjoyed it and have read it several times. In the book, a scientific expedition strikes out across a desert (possibly the Gobi; it's not mentioned by name) in a convoy of sturdy tracked vehicles. I liked the idea so I designed it partially based on the description in the book, but mostly by my own whim. It's about 1:35 scale (or 54 mm) which makes it 5" tall. The track plates were individually cast and assembled, the body is made of sheet styrene plastic with other details made from scrap parts or cast in resin like the treads. (wheels and tires. Fuel drums etc.) The design allows the treads to be removed when the vehicle needs to drive on a paved road.
Please feel free to ask questions about this thing if you like.

Thank you. It helps not having a specific plan so I can adjust the design as I proceed.

That's a totally cool scratch build, would much enjoy knowing what kits were involved and if you did any sketches. Thanks for sharing !

I pretty much just start building without sketches and I see where it goes. I make it up more or less. As for parts, mostly the material is raw, like sheet plastic or tubing. I did make a mold of a tire and wheel assembly and cast resin copies. I scratch built a track plate design and made castings of it for the treads. Then I joined them with sections of brass tubing for hinges.(what a time consuming job _that_ was) The other model parts were castings of a 1/35 scale oil drum, various tools from tank models, a .50 cal machine gun from a military kit and so on.
Thanks for your compliments.

Compliments are most deserved and well earned. I'm in the middle of working out a design for a tracked HMMV-APC vehicle. Politely curious if you might be a Ma.K-SF3D fan.

SF3D rocks. I still have a number of the models (still unbuilt) from about 20 years ago. I also have the set of civilian armour suits. Cool stuff.

I meant to ask if you like Dorvack armor as well, sharing a few excellent links to the kis and a few surprises. Enjoy !

I actually _prefer_ Dorvack as I feel it's a bit nicer looking in general. I find some of the SF3D look a bit clumsy (design-wise) Thank you for the links. I actually have the set of Dorvack prints; I got them about 20 years ago. Nice stuff.

I think the SF3D kits reflect a sort of retro-WW2 feel intentionally, which is interesting in itself. The Dorvack armors do present a more 'streamlined' appearance and that has it's charms too.

I agree. There are some SF3D items that are extremely cool. The "Fledermaus" and the "Hornisse" come to mind. The "Krote" and "Jerry" are really cool as well.

First of all, I assume you like this piece.
Second, I heard that 6,000 ants masqueraded as rice and robbed a chinese restaurant; they said they didn't do it. I actually know a couple of them and I believe them.
