Description This is a piece I did using scratchboard, an art paper with a glossy white surface that can be coated with black india ink. When dry, white lines or marks can be scratched or scraped onto the surface, revealing the white board beneath. Several scraping points can used to make differing line styles or textures. A number of interesting effects can be created with this medium, some minor ones I've demonstrated here. (really sounds like I know what I'm talking about) If one does a search on dA, I'm sure there will be much better examples of Scratchboard art to see.

That's really cool. You've made the light look stunningly bright, which isn't easy to do.

It's funny because I didn't work all that hard on this piece. It just seemed to work out on its own.

I had done it as a planet and a sun but I like your idea better; a rifle ball rolling down a gun barrel or pipe.

I know this is only an experiment, but the contrast and the lines make it very interesting. The texturing in the sphere gives it so many interesting qualities.

Thanks for sharing this, very cool.

Not at all. I'd really like to try more. It's really awkward trying to draw in reverse, scraping away to reveal white and leaving the shadow areas alone.

Man, I never thought of that because instead of adding shadow you are removing light, it's like the picture has to reveal itself to you, that's crazy and sounds difficult...

Well, you can always cheat and just draw it in black fineline marker and scan it; then just invert the image. But there's not much point in that.

I think that would be even harder to "think inverted" (possible terrible Apple slogan?)...
