Description
I completed the picture yesterday, at the expense of comic and commissions. On the bright side, I have no more homework until finals!
I used watercolour in this piece, and I'm pretty bad at it. I just kinda picked them up and used them. If anyone has any suggestions/crit, they would be highly appreciated.

This is awesome!! I like the pose and especially your clothing design!! Is this one of your original characters? Sorry, I'm new to watching ya. ^^
As far as watercolor technique I only know to advise you that if you want smoother blending like the fuzzy brush in photoshop or watercolor effect in Sai you'll want your brush to be wetter so the colors blend together better - careful as this will take longer to dry and if you paint areas next to each other the colors may bleed or blend (kind of like oil painting). If you want a more textured look keep the brush drier. It'll look like you dragged a paintbrush over carpet depending on how textured the paper is you're drawing on. This can also help produce a richer color faster and with less page soaking.
Hope that was helpful!

Anyways, keep up!

I luuuurv it. <3 The lines are really pretty, especially in the white dress. The snakes are a cool touch. I think you did fine with the watercolors, it's just a medium that takes some experimentation and getting used to. ^^

Wow this is really great. I wanted to paint something with watercolors but I didn't know what to use to outline the picture with so that it doesn't smudge. Could you tell me what you drew the line art with ?

I used a Micron inking pen and let it dry for quite a bit. Hope that helped!

So it's kind of like a better version of a permanent pen/marker? I'm still new to all those art tools

Yup, something like that! It can be a bit expensive, but it comes in various sizes, so choose one or two and you should be good to go.

Very nice linework, and the colors look great so far. I especially like the way you've done all that cloth, looks very real.

The lineart is beautiful! I like the mirror idea. My watercolour skills are nil, so try this link instead... [link]

Wowsers! So many tiny, tiny details.
I've just started watercolor myself, actually. What they mean by layering is doing a glaze of one color, letting it dry, putting on the next color, letting it dry, etc. (At least, that's what I think it means.) It's a very slow process that can result in more realistic looking paintings.
I suggest going from light to dark. Maybe play around with your watercolors on a scrap piece of paper before you come back to your final piece.
It's not the end of the world if you accidentally go over your lighter bits: you can easily scrub out/off the paint with some clean water in your brush.
Also, you may want to add some cooler colors to the deeper values. The gloves and boots look a little flat to me right now. Adding that extra zing might help with giving them a little more depth.
Hope that was, er, informative. And/or helpful.
Looking forward to seeing the finished piece, Crystal. ^_^

Ooh, thanks. :3 I'm not actually in any drawing or wtercolour class right now; I'm in a 2D Design class. xD And I don't have to do anything even near this level of detail, I just want to. I'm a non-Art major, so I don't get pushed unless I push myself.

Good golly, my mouth literally just fell open. The lineart is stunning, so delicate and detailed! I love it! I don't really know anything about real media coloring, but I can tell you that so far it's looking beautiful, and I can't wait to see progress on this.

Art nouveau is a style. Lots of frills, spiral designs, and--eh, just take a look at the Wikipedia article: [link]
