Description
Yeah, I'm making fun of the fandom. But, really, it was just asking for it. And I do like to mock things I enjoy. So, baaasically, these are some of the most common elements that pop up in the S/R fanfics. They show up constantly in different combinations (and with varying amounts of success... but I will not go there). I suppose it might have been interesting to pick out the more "WTF!?!" ones out there... but that would require finding them and exposing my already abused brain to them. The summaries can be painful enough as it is, thank you very much.
On an artsy note, sorry about the half-ass coloring. My attention span died about three quarters of the way through.

I should be offended, since my WIP fanfic about these two is very similar to your chart, but there's also the fact you're pretty much right anyway. X^D

Oh, I think all of us who have written fics for this pairing have used at least one of these items in some capacity before - I know I have. And really, there is nothing wrong with a number of them... there is a reason they are popular! There definitely is some variety in how well people use these tropes, though, and it's the people who end up using a bunch of them that are kind of hot messes.
Anyway, I'm glad you're ultimately not offended and can see the truth to it. I found it kind of endearing that this a thing that happens haha

I'm pretty sure it would be impossible to find a more perfect quote for the situation.

Haha, I like the pairing, too... which is unfortunately how I figured out these common tropes in the fandom. I'm glad you think it captures the situation.

Haha yes, I did indeed make this. There are just so many plot points that are too easy to use with this pairing... which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but unfortunately when something gets used a lot it gets harder and harder to present it in a way that seems fresh.
Ah, I have actually read that fic, or most of it at least? It's hard to remember because my really active Sess/Rin days were a number of years ago >__>; and a lot of stuff has gotten hazy as a result. I'm a bit more of a sucker for the Traditional Happy Ending and specific focus on the pairing in my fanfic reading, so I kind of think I might have skimmed parts. Shameful I know, I know, but again I can't really remember for sure what I did. I can't remember what day it is usually, soooo... XD

Hahaha well it is a popular one! It always amused me how frequently these things popped up... but regardless of how frequent they were, some of those fics were soooo entertaining!

Hahaha why? I think pretty much every fandom/pairing has a certain set of situations that come up a lot... but that doesn't mean they are ALL bad. I know I read some stories that might have had some of these points that were really well done. Granted, some of them are ridiculous and really trite, but certain ones can be used in unique and well-constructed ways.
It's just fun to poke at things like this. :3

Thanks! It's always so nice to hear from other people who have also noticed that these elements pop up a lot. I know I've used one or two of these points in my own stories before... but I definitely feel that there is a way to use them and a way to not use them. And then some are just ridiculous so.... XD

Frotu In reply to ReiBara [2011-07-15 02:11:26 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! Haha and it's okay - I think EVERYBODY who writes Sess/Rin uses these elements in some way. I certainly have used a few myself through my various fics. We must be on to something good if everybody uses some similar themes, right?

bwahahahaha! I have been indulging on some S/R fanfic lately and everything here is just true. I loved your stories, though, because they seemed the most in character and quite low-key, not to mention, written in more than decent English.
I would also like to mention that I also live in Japan (Tokyo, specifically) for 4.5 years now. And I also collect kimono, although only second-hand ones. I can't afford new tailor-made ones.

Frotu In reply to ureima [2010-11-09 00:20:36 +0000 UTC]
Hurray! XD I never wanted to insult the fandom with this, so it makes me really happy to get comments from people who agree! There are just some things that people seem to inevitably get drawn to with this pairing. XD
I am really happy that you approve of the characterization and such in my fics ^///^. That is something that is incredibly important to me, which often makes me fuss over it more than I probably should. Therefore I am always relieved to hear that I'm doing okay in that arena. And of course, compliments on the language is always appreciated, as well.
Oh gosh, you live in Tokyo? I studied abroad there over the summer and am going through terrible withdrawals. Do you mind if I ask around where in Tokyo you live? After the first time I went to Japan a couple years ago, I got completely hooked on kimono... some of them are just amazing pieces of art. I was so frustrated while I was back there the second time for school; I could only find two conveniently located second-hand stores (since I certainly couldn't afford new ones, either!), but they were so expensive and seemed rather foreigner-centric. *sigh* Even when I tried to find some of the flea markets, I kind of failed... but oh well. How many have you managed to collect?
