Description
I just want all you photoshop users to know gimp won't go down without a fight. This is more a "statement" piece then an awesome piece of art. The background is empty so if you have any idea's I'd appreciate it. I'm not saying photohsop is bad, but after downloading it I came to realize that even thought it's a more advance program it doesn't allow you to freely create anything. Too many rules that you have to follow when all I really want to do is make something artisticI think I'll stick with gimp so- QUIT TRYING TO GIVE ME THE SERIAL!

The only Photoshop things in my gallery are from when I was at school.
And I was like...
"What? No GIMP?! THIS SCHOOL SUCKS!"

Man that comment is old mate. GIMP is still great, but paint.net does better in the pixle department, same with MS paint. I've learned that a mix of programs help you learn.
However, Photoshop is still vastly overpriced, fucking 600$ for decent version.

The gimp has a lovely user-friendly interface, unlike photoshop, in which all the buttons are hidden behind keybord shortcuts and in complicated (and ugly) drop down menus that take ages to search out. Also it doesn't cost anything, so that your creative skills can be at work even if you haven't got loads of money to spend dishing out. There are loads of plugins and addons and tutorials on the internet for the gimp so that even if you are a complete stanger at first it won't take long to learn how to use it.
The gimp is constantly being updated with bug fixes and new features, which are all free, and because its an open source program its open to a lot more ideas and bugs get fixed quicker (if there are any).
Err anyway I could rant about this for ages and never get board the gimp is a much better program, and that final!

gimp comes with brushes. and actually, if you go to places like gimptalk, you can find tutorials where you make great stuff with just the basic brushes. But, you download brushes, just like you download photoshop brushes, yes. I've downloaded trial versions of photoshop and a. it's much too slow, and b. the default brushes are just as much crap as the gimp default.

Photoshop is way harder to figure out, and even then, some of the effects don't look as good, and are harder to work.
Although, that poor little feather, it doesn't stand a chance...

I think the best part of GIMP that rules over Photoshop is the price. Photoshop is an amazing program, but the prices can be extremely high, where as GIMP is somewhat similar and is a good program and it's free!

From gimpshop website:
"GIMPshop is a modification of the free/open source GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP), intended to replicate the feel of Adobe Photoshop. Its primary purpose is to make users of Photoshop feel comfortable using GIMP"
I really didn't understand if something try to replicate an advance program like ' photoshop' and the developers are admitting it themselves, How come GIMP Owns here ? (Please don't take it too personally!)

That is GIMP"shop" , you are talking here ; that version is for user who want to have a photoshop feel... it is derivated from gimp...
But here , we are talking about GIMP not GIMPshop, the main flagship program , completly different from photoshop ! the author wanted something more accessible than photoshop. Gimp isnt as good as adobe for sure but it does the job and its free.

Because it's free, and some people don't want to pay hundreds to get photoshop. GIMP has pretty much everything photoshop has, it's just...can an art program be more relaxed than another? I don't know if that's possible, but that's what it seems to me.

Even though you can create some amazing pictures with PS (as far as I know, I don't own PS), GIMP is pretty close to it and it's fun. Also, it's free instead of you having to buy a copy of PS for over a hundred dollars then installing it. >.> So yeah, GIMP wins.

I have both, and although Photoshop is more professional, I juts prefer GIMP. Also now with updates, GIMP is almost as good as Photoshop, it now has brush dynamics and can use photoshop brushes.
