Here is my first job for Privateer Press.It's the Patriarch of Morrow blessing some Precursor Knights. It was much fun to paint these since I really like the Knights and their background.
Thanks to cwalton73 for his great concepts for them.
This piece can be found in NoQuarter Magazine #18 besides a cool story by Doug Seacat. There is other nice artwork in it as well. So worth a look.

The Precursor Kights were the reason I got into Cygnar, Menoth was my second choice but when I saw these guys I had to go blue and gold and this only renforces my dissionson.

Hehe...for me it was the same. They were the base of my Cygnaran Forces. And work for my Ashlynn as well.

I always thought the Precursors were some of the coolest looking guys in Warmachine, and you've certainly done them great justice.

Awesome work, do you sketch them before painting?? I've been revising my process lately, and am wondering what other pro artists do.

And yes of course I do some sketches before painting. First simple thumbnails for the composition and sketch them in the right size and do corrections if needed. After that I often make some clean drawing which I scan and paint over.

You do the orig thumbnails with traditional media? What do you use for values, pencil?
Usually I just wing it

I use traditional pencils, mostly 2H and HB.
Sometimes I improvise some parts directly in Painter, but is from a traditional pencil drawing on real paper.

Cool... Thanks for your insights! I recently did one piece from a pencil sketch, but I often just shoot from the hip. As a professional designer I feel I can capture composition pretty easily, it's color composition that I need the most work with, so I usually start with a color sketch in PS.
