I just graduated, and I had an amazing experience there. It takes a while to get to the actual illustration courses, as the academy teaches everyone how to draw first. Great teachers, great classes.

How long is the "learning how to draw" process.


Also,

I hold my pencil the "wrong way",


but I've been holding it like that my whole life,

will they make me change that or do I have to?

mm, well if you can show pieces in which you show you understand certain things, you can waive some of the classes. think of it as general ed.
I can't remember how long it took..... 2, 3 years?
I wasn't taking any classes inbetween fall and spring, and I was still taking some of them when I started my illustration classes.

as for holding..
you'll learn new things about holding things differently.
What you'll be learning in the beginning is how to use charcoal.

I don't think you should worry about it.
