Description This week's assignment: A personal protagonist and antagonist, characters based out of our life experience. It was a really rough week for me...I started pretty strong, but by the middle of the design process I was really lagging...and then in the last possible moment I went to the school library picture collection, pulled a file on Chinese costume and Kojo took shape. I don't know how attached I am yet, but I am quite pleased and he was well received by all. The concept I wanted to tackle was brotherhood (I know they're young and super ambiguous, but they're both brothers...he'll probably get reworked). I was all into this Celtic warrior motif with braided beards and all that, and ultimately it just wasn't working the way I wanted it to. The best thing in situations like that, as it turns out, is to move away from the source material you're stuck on. I put on some Yoshida Brothers and had some odd dreams in expansive grassy plains. Obviously I came back to the Celticish-thing, but the result is very different, with significantly less beard per square inch.
I could go on and on, but really, that's what my blog is for...I'll probably elaborate on all this later in the evening when I have more time over there: [link]

and if you want to know what this sounds like to me, I highly recommend hunting down a song called "Frontier" by the Yoshida Brothers!

Hope y'all like him! (And no, I'm not sure about the name...I just thought it was funny )

I really like it, especially how thin and gangly his actual limbs are amid the big boulders and boots.

If someone presented this as a character concept in Pathfinder I'd be a happy GM. Those boulder boxing gloves are simply brilliant.

Story-wise, he definitely wouldn't look out of place in one of Golarion's Celtic-esque locations. Art-wise I think he looks better than most of the things I see in Pathfinder material.

Awesome design, he seems like a blast to draw - a very dynamic character. I particularily enjoy how his hair is connected with his brother's. Very weird, but in a really good way. ; )

This is a very interesting mix of Celtic and Chinese design. I see some of the chinese influence, like the chinese nomads.
Very interesting look at brotherhood too. That looks like one protective brother.

heh...I have a feeling you think in animated shorts. (somehow the idea had not occurred to me; I either go "comic book!" or "video game!" or "lucrative show/movie franchise!" ) (also: the idea of one actually thinking in animated shorts amuses greatly)

I love the fact that your heroes don't generally look like heroes. They aren't all big and brawny and full of no brains. Your characters look like they are cunning and use their thinking to get out of situations. Amazing!

Thanks! Miss you, too! Life is good? Snake is good?

I'm set in Christmas music mode, so no new suggestions at the moment, but I'll get back to you on that one.

Life is great, snake is adorable: [link] (Proof thereof!), and I really, really can't complain... Other than the fact that I thought I owned the Bishop's Wife, but I don't, and I really really want to watch it right now for some inexplicable reason. Oh, and also, though this is completely anticlimactic for anyone but me, but my Turbine stuff is FINALLY FINISHED! I'll probably post it soon, but I'm gorram proud of the paintings- sincerely it is probably better for them that it took me this long. I'm definitely better at this art thing than I was six months ago. Plus, six new character paintings to post! Woo.
