Description
Right! So lately I've been wondering about potential dragon AU forms for my characters. Now I have all of my OCs as flight rising dragons already, but I didn't design those dragons and there are loads of details that I wouldn't personally choose. So here they are designed by me, starting with Fletcher.
----
Name: R. Fletcher
Gender: Male
DOB: 21/2/1990
Height at shoulder: 11ft (tol)
Wingspan: 36ft (smol)
Personality notes: Fletcher is loud and excitable and a horrible flirt, though he is extremely dedicated to his bf Fjord. He's afraid of heights and blood, and nurses a severe heroic streak. He has an addictive personality and can fall into the habit of doing reckless things for the simple rush of it. A pyromaniac.
Design notes: Fletcher is a flightless dragon whose every feature is designed for speed. He can run in excess of 600km/ph for extended periods and sprint at 800km/ph for a few seconds at a time. He is very lanky, with disproportionately long legs. His tail is quite stiff, though it can bend from side to side with some degree of flexibility, to help his balance.
His respiratory system is similar to that of a bird, in that inhalation is passive rather than active. However, he takes it a step further - while running, he is constantly inhaling (through the nostrils) and exhaling at the same time. Air is exhaled through the vents on his chest. His wings are short and shaped to induce downforce rather than lift, with an upside-down aerofoil design. He uses them to steer; at high speeds a turn could break his wrists or ankles, so the wings help reduce the strain. The two membrane layers on the wings (the orange and the dark brown) can be manipulated to form true aerofoils, though only for a short period. This helps in long jumps/falls.
Fletcher has flame breath, and the vents on his neck release steam after breathing fire.
His mane and sail-fin are not hair or fur, but stiff aerodynamic membrane. It contains nerves that link directly to his spinal cord, which inform him of the current climate, i.e wind speed, temperature, air pressure, etc. His scales are extremely small, invisible to the naked eye, so his hide just looks like shiny metal or rubber.

thank you! I was aiming for that kind of look, though with a slightly avian influence because I'm me and I can't help it. But it was pretty fun doing something without fluff for once lmao
