Description
This is the story of how I fell in love with Hopeless Masquerade. Though the game is great, I have the following criticisms:-The flight mechanic automatically places the players in the center horizontal plane, making it difficult to dodge certain attacks, or pulling off directional heavy melee attacks.
-No dedicated block button. You either have to flick the stick in the opposite direction you're facing to block, or risk it by dashing into bullets (ie: grazing). This can become a problem during attacks that come from both sides of the screen, such as during my next criticism...
-F$#%ING MAMIZOU! Seriously, her last spellcard (the one with the rushing animals) is fricken cheap as all hell, especially since she attacks normally while the animals are free to run across the screen.
-There is (to my knowledge) no way of determining how many life bars an enemy has during story mode. This makes no sense, since the player has an onscreen counter for three lives to run through before they have to continue.
-There is no "Rounds #" option. All VS Com battles are best-two-of-three fights, which isn't long enough in my opinion.

I agree about how annoying it is your character floats towards the middle of the map. In addition I feel the lack of a dedicated 'dash' button to be excessively annoying, seeing as it was available in previous games.

How should you know that there are boss spell cards? No way to relate from the past 3 fighter which all feature this.

....which I haven't played, so I would have no way of knowing that any of the fighters contain them.

You know Mamizou's animal attack can be misdirected and grazed, right? I just dash past Mamizou as I graze the animals. It works.
What narks me is there being no dedicated dash button, when there was one in SWR. However, the current layout does allow for varied attacks...

About the no block button... You do know that nearly all fighting games require you to move away from your opponent to block, right?

Yes, some earlier arcade fighters used the "hold away" tactic for blocking. However, I'm more used to fighters with dedicated block buttons (Mortal Kombat, Super Smash Bros, etc.), and since Hopeless Masquerade is different from the generic arcade fighters of the past, it starts becoming problematic for me.
Of course, that's just my opinion. If holding away is something you like, then I'm not going to try to convince you not to.
