Description
A lot of people have been asking me to make a book binding tutorial. Sorry its not very in depth. I learned by just messing around with it until I got it right, and it took about a year of screwed up books before I could make something of quality. So here's basically what I do. And yes, step #2 if very important.
The two books that I made are available to buy in my Etsy shop - - - [link]

I usually just tie a knot in the beginning so the thread doesn't come through. There might be a better way to do it
You can sew anyway you'd like. I find that doing all of one set and then all the middle set, and then all the third set makes it a little easier.

I was wondering ,how do you do the sewing? Cause like I got the frist part how she stich the frist signature but I dont know how to ad it to all the over ones . And every time I finish the pages look like there froma teard up book

When you sew the first signature, just send the needle down through the first hole of the next one and pull it snug. Just sew it like you would anything else. The glue will help hold it together.
The pages are going to be uneven once you finish sewing them. To get an even edge you'll need to cut them, which can be really tricky. I have an industrial size paper cutter that makes it easy, but I used to cut them with a metal ruler and an exacto knife. It takes practice to do it that way.

Step 2 is indeed critical. Although I'm naughty and have chocolate myself....
Seriously though, this was really helpful. I can never get the spine quite right on my books >.<'

Spines are pretty tough... I made a book the other day and it was coming out PERFECT until I totally screwed up the spine... Oh well haha

Oddly enough, the main problem I tend to hit is things going pear-shaped when I glue the covers on. But that's my own silly fault for not measuring properly and using the wrong kind of end paper

funkmaster-c In reply to Swirlything [2008-06-16 17:33:52 +0000 UTC]
Measuring can be a real pain sometimes. I usually have trouble getting everything lined up perfectly straight when I attach the cover.

You take 3 pieces of cardboard, 2 for the cover and one for the end piece, and just double-sided tape paper on them like Christmas presents. Play around with it, I'm sure you'll get it.

I have a question
Is it possible to recycle cardboard from boxes?
Like this one (the box) [link]
I've seen someone use it in a tutorial and was wondering if it would do for normal books too
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
funkmaster-c In reply to Beyoncefanny [2008-02-16 21:47:58 +0000 UTC]
yeah, you could use that kind of box. I think its kind of hard to work with though, but thats just me. The best thing is matte board, because its very strong. I've also seen people use cereal boxes as the board.

O.o I think, at the moment I was thinking something I shouldn't have been thinking, I was thinking I liked to think about moose. In contrast to what I really should have been thinking about-- I think I should think about thinking about something entirely different. What do you think?
