Description
This little book was just an experiment. The cover is made from a soft fuzzy paper with a real peacock feather adhered to it with spray glue. The paper on the inside is some scrap drawing paper I had.I screwed up the bind quite a darn bit as I was putting the cover on... As you can see in the middle picture on the right. But I think it still turned out pretty.
If anyone is interested, this item is for sale in my shop - [link]

The spray glue really works to hold something as delicate as a feather on securely? That's so cool. It's a great effect.

It was really hard to get the spray glue on the feather though without it blowing away and making a huge mess. I like how it turned out though.

Gorgeous. How many signatures and pages total is it about?
Spray on glue, right? What about the 3D pieces, like the Fairy and Skeleton books, what do you use to attach those?

Thanks Sorry for the late reply. The book has 9 signatures with 8 sheets in each. So 72 or 144 pages depending on how you count.
The skeleton and the fairies are attached with super glue. The spray glue on this one is actually holding up pretty nicely.

Alright, decent number of pages. So just super glue? Really? Hmm. :3 Thanks for the answers, sir!

It was an experiment, I wasn't even sure if the feather would stay on very long. Its still on there though and its turning out to be a sturdier than I thought it would. So yeah, $4.50

I'll keep that in mind. All artists, writers or physical, need a place to jot down ideas and inspiration...and it helps in a book that it "theirs" not a cookie cutter, mass produced book.

That's why I love doing customs. Its fun to try and capture a bit of that person and make the book THEIRS.

So the binding isnt 'perfect' - thats what makes handmade items so unique and personal. Gives it charm and character
I really love this, its a wonderful little book.

Ooooh I like it! Will the feather come off/become damaged or did you put something over the front cover to protect it?

But HAIR and other icky stuff can stick to it. What about a moth? Yeah, a moth could become stuck to it. That's no fun for anyone. Especially you. You're scared of them.

Ooooh, that is nice! You've given me Ideas now, I have a lot of peacock/crow/pigeon/random feathers lying around that I don't know what to do with due to my habit of picking up every one I see....
I can't see what's wrong with the binding though, it looks a lot neater than most of mine. The only thing I can see is the spine paper isn't quite centered but to be honest I don't think that matters too much, it's still a very pretty book and personally I think imperfections are part of the charm of handmade things ^_^

Yeah, the blue bind paper isn't quite in the middle, but the part that bugs me is how it kind of dips down where it meets the back cover. It bothers me less now than it did last night though. Its still a pretty sturdy book. (emphasis on the pretty haha)
Feathers are hard to work with. But they can look really neat if you do it right. I've got some more peacock feathers lying around. I may try to make a bigger version of this book sometime.

now THATS pretty any suggestions on how to get the dried flowers onto the book you made me? I dont want to cover or ruin the paper with contact paper or thick glue, but I need the flowers to stick and not break off over the years.I'm needy huh?

funkmaster-c In reply to heatherspettals [2008-06-25 14:46:18 +0000 UTC]
You should give spray glue a try. If you do it right it works pretty good, and holds really well.
You should definitely use it outside. Put the flower on some scrap paper and give the back a nice spray and then stick it in the book. Make sure you keep the book away from the spraying though... because that doesn't end well
Give it a try, it might work out.

funkmaster-c In reply to heatherspettals [2008-06-25 19:09:06 +0000 UTC]
Umm. Probably. Maybe you could spray the front with some kind of finish as well? Like a matte glaze? I have something like that that I spray on pencil drawings so they don't smudge and I know they have different kinds.
So basically my answer for everything is spray it
