Description
Continuing my commitment to draw or color something every day (wonder how long this will last? 3 days?), here's a colored version of "Random Soldier" [link]This was a new experimental coloring style, which was basically first drawing the lineart, then adding basic colors underneath the lineart (same old) but then adding a new layer ABOVE the lineart, which I had never tried before. I think it turned out quite well, and I'll probably use this style some more in the future, depending on the genre.
Somewhat inspired by the awesome webcomic "Gone with the Blastwave". Check it out!

Cool I'm experimenting with painting aswell. Trick for me is to 'let go' of all the neat painting/rendering. I'll get there eventually. Just made a quick fan-art thingy for gone with the blastwave aswell, love these comics
Here it is if you're interested:

Nicely done! I've found that for me, it's hard to use such a loose style for most of my drawings - it's easier when there aren't many accessories, or obstacles blocking line of sight to the main character or something. In a nutshell, it's easier to color initially, but if you want to do anything detailed or make updates/changes, it's tougher.

Oh i love it when there's more details to paint, it's just to hard to make them up when you start with a dark sketch (and that's how i mostly start, just a big black mess and i start erasing stuff till i have a figure, then start shading and filling in details). But yeah these characters aren't too hard, i love their expression though, so emotionless and dumb somehow

Thanks. One of the guns I like the most, as far as aesthetics go.

Perhaps it's because Gone With The Blastwave isn't really based in contemporary day equipment, although some of the vehicles were referenced... maybe it would take him too long to draw?

That was a rhetorical question but that really is a concern of mine, still a great comic reguardless. I would be honored if you would refer any firearm questions to me in the future, I am a gun nerd (as per meh sig) and would enjoy answering any questions about the wide world of firearms.

Yeah, it's a G36. I didn't put much thought into whether or not it's a C or a K version, though. Thanks for your feedback!

Hehe, no problem. Lineart's fun to work with and all, but sometimes it's worth experimenting with other styles, it's definitely worth trying. The coloring actually isn't all that different from what I normally do, I just colored over some of the lineart, that's all. Try it out sometime~
