Description
Just for a minute...forget Marble Hornets. Forget Tribe Twelve. Forget all the Slenderman vlogs. Forget SLENDER. Forget whatever Slenderman artist you idolize. ESPECIALLY forget a certain uber-popular artist who calls herself "The Savior Of Slenderman." The ugly truth is that Slenderman does not have a concrete, written-in-stone canon. Aside from his basic attributes (tall, skinny, tendrils, claws, three-piece dark suit, no face, bald, kills/eats people, lives in the forest) his abilities depend upon the artist/writer. He doesn't necessarily have to be immortal, unkillable, unstoppable, etc. Don't just parrot what everyone else thinks he's like. Develop a headcanon of your own!
My version of Slendy, for instance, isn't immortal, just really hard to kill because of his regenerative abilities. And he's not TEH MOST POWERFUL THING IN TEH UNIVERSE and SUPER DUPER UNBEATABLE. My Slendy's sort of an anagalm of several different versions (uses Proxies, has blood and internal organs, isn't immortal, can regenerate, organic tendrils, only teleports when he really needs to, has a hidden mouth, etc.)
So stop whining about how he lost to Cannibal Jeff in this picture already. It's MY headcanon version of Slenderman, NOT yours. Besides, the picture takes place in a parallel universe.
PS: The blank-faced, bald, Proxy-using Slendy we're all familiar with was not what Slenderman was intended to be. As explained in one of my journals:
"Slender Man was originally intended:
-To have a face, nose, eyes, mouth and ears; not seen on camera, though.
-To also have short, white hair.
-NOT to be a Creepypasta, but rather a new horror character that would go mainstream.
-To hunt ADULTS and children, as compared to teens and college students.
-To NOT HAVE PROXIES!
-To do EVERYTHING by himself.
-To use garbage bags as his disposal.
-Not to have notes.
-To crack or snap people's necks, strangle, bite the head off, cut the victim in half with his claws or stab with his tentacles at a persons head or chest.
-To run, grab and throw.
But...
We have a non-scary re-hashing horror creature."
So the vision that comes into your head when you think of Slenderman isn't "canon" either.
PROBLEM, SLENDER-ELITISTS?
Slenderman (c) Victor-Surge/Something Awful
EDIT:I AM NOT TRASHING ANY SLENDERMAN SERIES. I'm just saying they're not canon and encouraging you to develop a headcanon of your own. You can still enjoy then, just don't take them as the gospel.
EDIT2: I got this info from in the comments.
"IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT MARBLE HORNETS: MH's producers stated about a month ago that the being we've all referred to as Slenderman in Marble Hornets is actually separate entity known as "The Operator", a being based on Slendy's appearance.
I REPEAT: Marble Hornet's Operator is not Slenderman."

I actually have a headcanon where Zalgo and Slender are not enemies, but actually accomplices that will often work together to get what they want.

In my universe, Slender is like the king of Endermen. He takes damage by water and will teleport like crazy when on fire.

Β The fact that each person can sort of have their own interpretation is what attracted me to the creepypasta fandom in the first place. ^^
For me, Slenderman was a little more like the original than usually popularized in the old days, doing all the work himself and being much more savage. However, within the past 60 years or so, he's started to get old and warn out from the increase in electronic technology in our world. To me, his ability to corrupt technology is not passive, it is active and so his energy cannot keep up with our technology, so he has retreated into the forest and now depends on younger, human Proxies to help him continue to survive. Additionally, in the past three years, he has been hunted by the SCP Foundation. In short, he's sort of the grandfather of horror monsters, but now his abilities are limited so he's turned to lending his abilities to helping the next generation.

That's what I love, is how things can just be freely depicted by everyone. :3
So many beautiful things have come from the imagination and I never want it to stop.

Yeah, I remember you made a similar point about Jeff the Killer, I believe. These icons, regardless of them having had actual debuting stories that sometimes depicted their origin, are left out in the public to do with whatever the desires of whoever finds it are. They aren't registered trademarks (thank heavens... although such a thing doesn't stop fanfiction from existing anyway) and some, like Jeff, have had many stories that are really popular, but not all of them are written by the same person.
That's one thing I really like about creepypasta: the convenience of registered trademarks generally not being a part of it. Yeah you have references to Pokemon or Zelda games, but the characters and icons themselves cannot be claimed by any existing company, so people of the Internet are pretty much free to write their own stories based on or inspired by these characters, which I think it awesome. Hence, me writing my own creepypasta story.

I agree one hundred percent. Especially because I personally am a huge fan of ancient legends and modern day slenderman is strikingly similar to urban legends sprouting as old as biblical times and stretching from Japan to Germany to England and even the Mayans so I enjoy portraying him with unique aspects from these legends but recently I stopped because I kept getting screamed at that slenderman "doesn't do this" or "isn't like that" and it drove me nuts. Sorry if I'm ranting but in short I salute you sir or Madame for speaking up

It's always nice to see Creepypasta fans who still have their own headcanons and don't just mindlessly follow whatever artist/writer/narrator is the most popular or "trendy" at the moment to determine what the "classic" pasta monsters are supposed to be like.
The creepypasta fandom in general is amazingly closed-minded about people interpreting pasta monsters even slightly differently than how they're used to; just look at all the shit I get for CJ.

I completely agree. I always tell people that if they don't like my interpretations they can go somewhere else when they give me hate for stupid things such as that. I love faves but not enough to change my views to thier likings.

I kinda thought the reason we can't see his face is because adults have a hard time coping with the idea that something like this exists. We do not wish to believe, so we do not see. (Kinda like how when children don't want to believe something is real, they just pretend it isn't) and so only children can see his face

wow
canΒ΄t believe I didnΒ΄t saw this before
AND I'M TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU
besides
this is an art site!!! where is gone the imagination and creativity people was supossed to show us about reality and, off course, also about fictional stuff such as Slenderman?
This fandom stuff has only proven me that there's plenty of closed minded young people who put rules on what is supossed to be our free expression.Β
Personally, that's why I like Slendy: we have a character with certain description, style and a very simple designe and us artists let our imagination fly with it. He is like a blank canvas to me: I can get a lot of ideas with a character like him, wich has turning him into one of my artistic inspirations.Β
I never payed atenttion to the fandom stuff, because it limitates you to think as a fan of certain stuff that soon or later starts childish and unimportant (and at times insane) discussions with online strangers about stuff that has no relevance for anyone, but the fans and even so, is not something to take so seriusly. There's mor eimportant stuff to worry about out there.
ThatΒ΄s why I PREFFER TO THINK AS AN ARTIST withouth boundaries on my ideas. Yes, we can keep the escence of the character, but we canΒ΄t turn that into a silly fight, PLEASE.

i personally don't agree with Slendy having a canon, multi theories and people will always picture him differently
i for one agree with the children ideal, and go by the facts of a faceless, creature who stalks in the night
fucking rips people to shreds or anyone in his area, which i prefer to be a forest, the pages are a bit...odd..
and i love the idea of proxies!
everyone is different and we should all respect others for that
but people are just assholes, so you'll always have THAT hater

I follow the tulpa theory presented by White Elephants. That is, Slenderman is a product of people who believe in him and fear him, but he can still be killed by somebody who believes he can.

THANK YOU. I know this isn't exactly what the stamp is about, but I HATE when people act like he's a heartless insane killer and nothing else. He doesn't even canon personality for crying out loud! People used to bash me for giving him a girlfriend when they didn't even know what he would do to her. ._. A lot of creepypasta fans need to start expanding their imagination.

I always though he was a kinda legend. like the 'Boogie man'. At least that's what I've read/heard. He was a myth to scare kids into being good. Originating in Germany, going by many different names. 'Slender man' is just one, another one would be 'Tree man' since he looks/blends in with trees and another German one I cannot recall. At least that's what I've read/herd... I'm kinda confused now @-@

Plus, and I think many people don't realize this, Slender man was created by this fellow- Everyone always seems to credit him to Marble Hornets.
I think the common vision that people have of Slender Man, the one Marble Hornets uses, probably originated with these images:

victor-surge.deviantart.com/arβ¦
victor-surge.deviantart.com/arβ¦

Which have the iconic black suit, blank face, long tentacles etc...
