Well it's very basic really, just start with a sketch of what you want (I take most of my time on the sketch because I'm a perfectionist )then I follow with the lineart when I'm satisfied with the sketch then I color it, putting in the shadows and later small details like background stuff or more light/shinning. I hope this explains it better ^^
