So I was making some sketches to continue practicing my humanized bone bro designs, and I ended up making something I liked so much I decided to make it its own thing: another piece of fanart based on theperfecta 's fanfic /concept of Genocide Route Sans somehow meeting Genocide Papyrus. Call me obsessed, but I've literally read that fanfiction enough times that I can recite it almost word-for-word in my head when I'm in a feelsy mood. I don't know exactly why, I just really, really like this concept for some reason - I guess it just scratches a really specific skelebro-feel itch in my heart.I'm surprised I'm the first person I've seen use the idea of Sans reverting to 8bitoperator when he gets emotional, not just when he's angry or serious - then again, it's 2 AM right now, so it's entirely possible I have and have just forgotten. Has anybody else seen that?

Also, that's an interesting headcanon about Sans' font. I've always wondered why no one talks about the fact that he uses 2 fonts to speak, and that's why his name is Sans instead of Comic Sans (of course, he could just be going by a nickname, but it's food for thought). Can other skeletons switch fonts? Could Papyrus suddenly start speaking in comic papyrus for some reason? So many questions~

I'm pretty sure the guys are named after the fonts, not the other way around, so I'm pretty sure his name is only Sans. Plus, Sans is actually a word; it's a preposition meaning "without", which is... kinda sad when you think about it. Of course, if there's other skeletons named after other sans-serif fonts ending in the word "Sans", then I guess we we might have a bit of a problem, hehe.
I always saw the bros' use of different fonts as just a symbolic way of illustrating their voices without any actual acting. It really works when you think about it; Papyrus is an overused decorative font that often ends up being used when people want to look cool, but since they don't realized its so overused, they just end up looking silly. Contrariwise, not only is Comic Sans seen as a goofy, non-serious, immature font, but its also considered a very lazy choice when deciding on fonts to use. Added to the fact that Papyrus always uses uppercase letters, which people do either to draw attention to themselves or to indicate that they're shouting, and Sans uses all lowercase like a lazy typer who can't be bothered to properly punctuate everything, it represents their personalities and voices very very well. Heck, if you notice, Sans isn't even invested enough to be consistent in how he misuses grammar - sometimes he uses commas when he should and sometimes he doesn't. He literally talks exactly like how a lazy person would type, down to being consistently inconsistent.
To me, Sans reverting to 8bitoperator is meant to indicate that his tone has suddenly lost all the personality you're used to. I think it's a brilliant design choice, personally, especially since his talking sound disappears along with it. I've also seen some people interpret his 8bitoperator voice as being distorted/echo-y/having some kind of other magical effect, which is also a good way of looking at it. As an aside, I think Papyrus would also revert to properly-written 8bitoperator if pushed far enough emotionally or in a VERY serious situation, but we've yet to see that actually happen.

Nah, I’m sure they were named after the fonts, too. I was actually referencing Zarla’s headcanon that skeletons have a form of synesthesia that allows them to see the “font” they speak in, and that in turn influences what they’re named, which I think is a pretty solid theory, as I’m pretty sure no other characters in the game have distinctive fonts that they use when talking to you or to each other. But I concede that it could also just be a stylistic quirk chosen by the developers to illustrate their personalities to the player without having to spell everything out explicitly, and there’s no in-game explanation for it.
I like those different ideas about Sans’ font style changing when he’s suitably worked up, though. Makes a lot of sense. I wonder what would be enough to make Papyrus drop his own font, though… heh, on second thought, I probably don’t want to know…
(As an aside, though, am… I the only one that’s rather annoyed by the tendency in a lot of fanfic to make Papyrus speak in all caps and Sans speak in all lowercase? Like, it makes sense if you’re doing a comic or something, since that’s the way they talk in the game and all, but in the context of a fic, it’s just distracting, especially when everyone else speaks perfectly normally. Could just be a pet peeve of mine and no one else minds at all, though. XD)

I'm literally so disproportionately obsessed with this concept you have no idea... as anybody else written a fic about it or anything? I want it to be a thing, somehow; a Reuinion AU, where the bros are the only ones left after their timelines both go through Genocide and they somehow end up reunited and have to piece everything back together, or something like that. I dunno, just something, I want more from this idea, dangit.
Definitely make more once you have time! Don't compromise your schoolwork, though, that's never worth it.

Interesting concept, too, his speech font change when he gets serious. And of course, the only coloration being in each other's dead brother's favorite clothing articles adds to the emphasis on each other's pasts. What's that technique called, only coloring, like, one or two aspects of an otherwise-monochrome setting?

Thanks for asking, it's called selective colorization. I made it that way since the original and follow-up drawings which started this whole thing used the same technique and it makes perfect sense.
