Story:
Two weeks ago Phoenix had been bred to Ramses and now Noah was waiting with baited breath for the results of the ultrasound. If the breeding took, she would have a foal in 11-12 months time. Phoenix was getting older and the vet warned him it might be harder for her to get pregnant. As Noah waited for the verdict he began to worry. Why was it taking so long? Surely he'd be able to tell by now if it took. The vet frowned and took a picture of the screen.
"I'm going to get a second opinion." He explained, walking off towards his truck.
A few minutes passed and he returned with a somber expression. Noah's heart sank. It must not have took.
"It's twins, I'm afraid. You have a few different options, but you don't have to decide right away."
Noah didn't understand why that was a bad thing. Twins meant double the sale price for only one stud fee. Sort of a buy one get one free situation, right? The vet seemed to understand his confusion because he explained that twins had a very low survival rate, sometimes killing the mare as well.
By the time the vet left, Noah's head was spinning. He'd recommended aborting one of the foals while the embryos were still free floating. He'd even offered to do it right then but Noah turned him down. He needed time to think.
