Extras:
1. Something in the Woods
Story:
Noah clucked his tounge as they aproached the fallen log at a brisk trot. He leaned forward when felt his mare gather herself and prepare to jump, grabbing a chunk of mane just in time as Phoenix launched herself over the obstacle. Landing effortlessly on the other side, she slowed to a walk so Noah could pull himself back into position. Jumping was proving to be much more difficult that he had anticipated.
Had they been home, he was sure Phoenix would've dumped him after the first obstacle when he ended up hanging off her neck after nearly flying over her head, but there was nothing his mare loved more than showing off, even if it was at his own expense. Thankfully, the woods provided shelter from the spectators, who were crowded near the start and finish lines. All he had to do was keep his seat as they crossed the finish line and he would hopefully be spared most of the humiliation.

"Well little guy, guess you're coming home with me." Noah cooed as he loaded a cardboard box containing the rabbit into his truck. He'd asked around, but no one seemed to know anyone who owned rabbits or was willing to take a feral one home.
"Hey! Are you the guy with the rabbit?" Noah turns to see a woman holding a large plastic tote with holes poked through the sides and lid. Oh no.
"Hi. Yup, that's me. Is he yours?" he askes hopefully.
"Oh! No, sorry." She holds up the tote sheepishly. "I found another one. Everyone told me I should talk to you. Glad I caught you in time."
"You don't have any idea whose they are?"
"Nope. No one around here owns rabbits. They were probably dumped." She sets the tote on the ground.
"Mind if I have a look?"
She shakes her head, gesturing tward the lid. "Be my guest."
Noah pops the latch on one side and crackes the lid open, careful not to let it out. A wild rabbit stares back at him, wide eyed. "Um. Are you sure this one's domestic?" he asks gently.
"Of course I'm sure. It's a Netherland Dwarf."
Noah feels his face heat. "Right. Um..."
"Want me to take a look at the other one?" she asks, already stepping around him to peer into the box in his truck. "This one's an American blue, I think. It's hard to tell when they're this young."
"You know a lot about rabbits." Noah observes, impressed. She grins, sharp canines flashing.
"Yeah, my boyfriend and I used to raise them for meat." Noah blinks, staring at her as if he hadn't really seen her until now. She meets his gaze, a challenging glint in her eyes. It's clear he should choose his next words carefully.
"Thats... cool."
"It is." she agrees, not breaking eye contact. He can hear Phoenix pawing in the trailer, eager to get going.
"I should—" he starts, gesturing to the trailer.
"Of course."
He breathes a sigh of releif as he goes to settle his mare. When he returns the woman is gone but the tote is still on the ground where she left it. "Great." he mutters, loading the tote into his passenger seat and buckling the seatbelt around it. "Looks like both of you guys are coming home with me."

Artist Note: Someone gave me a charcoal set for Christmas years ago and it's been sitting in my art room ever since. I finally decided to pull it out and try my hand at it. Definitely not perfect but I'm happy with it as a first attempt.
