Pre-Y2K artwork that I had submitted to yet another defunct online contest - it was called the Monthly Anime Outcast competition, and didn't have a lot of participants since the characters featured were obscure". Like the MAC, the MAO site has disappeared into obscurity.The different faces of Iria
The MAO was featuring Keita Amemiya's Iria, and I couldn't pass on the chance. Although I knew which Iria the MAO was referring to, I just had to draw the others.
The Iria from Zeiram the Animation was designed by Masakazu Katsura (even before I knew his name, his style was more than obvious). I don't know who designed the costume for Iria in Zeiram Zone (which is a 3D Final Fight style Playstation game by the way). As for Iria in Zeiram 2 (a live action movie), her costume was designed by Keita Amemiya, who also happened to be it's director/producer.
One additional note, the Zeiram Zone Iria was based on the cover artwork than on the actual 3D model. Her shoes were 'borrowed' from the Zeiram the Animation Iria (she had a less awesome looking costume when she was a rookie).

Personally, I prefer Iria's appearance in the first/original live action movie(with or without her red ''poncho'').
Dude, Keita Amemiya is the creator of the whole franchise.

I love Iria, the anime more so then the live actions. Although i've owned the anime for a loong time, and only recently bought the movies. In fact i'm watching the second one right now,

I've only watched the anime, so I'm intrigued about the movies. Sadly, I find the story of Iria rather plain, then again that is the limitation of an OVA - great visuals but compressed story.

Yeah story's a bit short, though I still loved it. Just so you know the story lines of the movies and the anime are quite different.
The first movie was so so. Pretty cool would've been better but I watched it with biasm on what I think Iria should be, I was also playing videogames with my brother though. so It could be much better then I remember.
Finished watching Zeiram 2 last night, It's easily my favorite live-action movie of anykind, way better then the first I think. better budget, the actors were much more settled on who they were. and Yuko Moriyama (Iria) seemed to do the physical parts so much more fluidly then the first.
the first seemed more...Kiddy while the first seemed more teenager/adult I guess is how i'd put it.
Both good buys though.

Iria isn't a well-known character. It would have been great to see more anime about her (especially if they use Masakazu Katsura's design). Too bad the OAV itself is an uninspired story - which most likely killed any chances of a remake.
Then again, there's always hope that they'll do a remake in the future.

What I want to know is this-- if *Iria* looked noticeably different between anime, game, and movie incarnations, what about her nemesis, the titular Zeiram? I know that in the first movie and the animation, they looked pretty much identical (hulking man-mountain-mushroom who had a metric @$$load of guns concealed inside its body; only difference was the anime version was a LOT bigger physically)and even in the opening of the second Zeiram movie, Cyber-Zeiram still kept the 'mushroom' motif (even if then it really WAS just a hat Cyber-Z wore, instead of actually being part of its head; it got rid of that once Zeiram-the-original woke up and took control of its new cyberform). MY question is this-- in the videogame, Zeiramzone, did Zeiram differ noticably from the white-faced, 'shroom-headed Cosmic Horror that we've all grown to know and love (and fear) over the years?

I haven't watched any of the live action movies, but that was what made me a fan of Keita Amemiya when I saw the pictures. Too bad the Iria anime had a weak story - still, the designs are awesome.
